saw this an hour ago.... been waiting for diablo 3 since the release of d2! No key either , BF3 and diablo 3 are the games im dieing to play so bit disappointing but maybe ill get one soon...

Why didn't I play longer? That's a good question. You see, the game requires an always-on Internet connection, and the servers seemed to set themselves on fire a few hours after I downloaded the beta, and this dumped me from the game. You not only need to be online to play, you need to connected to Blizzard at all times. So if your connection goes down, or if their servers crash, you can't play. Not even single player. At least this means I can sleep tonight! I know this is a beta and these things are bound to happen, but it's still an ill omen.

It looks awful from what ive seen , theyve bastardized it with cheery contrasts and that smooth , cartoon feel from WOW.

The whole mood has been watered down to the extent we now have bosses that sound more like a burger king special , " 1000 pounder " .

4 lousy characters, no necro and no customization from what i can see.

From what i've read so far, it the need for persistent (MMO-like) connection to Blizzard servers that it likely to cause the biggest problem for me.... and likely to turn me and my friends right in to the clutches of Torchlight 2

That's it then. All that waiting and anticipating for nothing. I'm not even going to read the reviews of it now. I will not buy a game that requires me to be permanently connected to their servers for the single player that I will almost exclusively use.

I watched the vids of the Beta playthrough on IGN and TBH, I thought it looked ok. I guess its all down to personal preference but I didnt think it looked that cartoony, but thats just me. There isnt a necro, but I think that the witch doctor is similar in terms of being able to summon guardians etc to fight for him. I used to play the Paladin, so looking for an equivalent, but will have to see...

I'm prepared to give it a chance, however some early reports are describing in the beta (admittedly pre-release, so things can change) that if you internet connection looses touch for a moment, you are kicked off and reset to an earlier point.

I dont like the principle of a permanent connection, although can probably get over my frustration of that principle - however if the reality proves to be of a nearly unplayable game because you play for an hour and suddenly all is lost... well..

Oh I hear you on that - I cant remember who else had something like this - was it Ubisoft for one of their big releases? Anyway, I dont agree with it too and as I have limited gaming time, then that would be really frustrating, but for me, I'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face if I didnt get it.

But who knows, hopefully it may change - I'm definitely more into the single player side than online, so will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I always played Diablo 2 on closed battle.net, but usually in a passworded game. This let me play single player, but with the benefit of realm only runewords and the ability to jump into MP games if I wanted. The Diablo 3 net requirement wont really affect me as that's how I played anyway. I'm not saying I've never played offline, I've played on a laptop whilst travelling many times, but I'm happy enough with Torchlight(2) and Titan Quest for my hack 'n' slash fun on the move.

I think given its basically the same formula id be looking for lot of innovation or something to say this is as different as the 1st was, but I see so many games now ,even browser games like hellbreed ,or inde games like Torchlight, that dont look that different , or offer anything any less - and in perhaps in some cases more than what i see here.

I'm too old to be wow-d by pretty graphics ( unless its something significant like augmented reality ) and just think they wasted their time. When u take a landmark title and basically reproduce it with nothing except a an upscale in graphics ( which means nothing if all games are using the same technology ) then what is the point ???

To me just comes off as developers trying to introduce to a new generation really, which is sad because it will never stand up on the original and just look weak.

They should of waited for the new unreal engine or Sonys new 3d headset or something to put a new spin on it but when u look at it , it doesn't look that different from games like NVN from 6 yrs ago...

I doubt it will have Sean Connery in it either

for me id wish they did just take d2 and upgrade graphics as much as possible, alot of my mates wont play it as they never played it before so basically see the graphics and think oh its bad its so very bad, where as i just really enjoy it and ignore the graphics . From what ive seen its going to much like WoW and i hate wow with a passion, dont care if its got x million people it doesnt mean its amazing .

Hopefully release is alot better!
