Re: Steam: Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance

That BlackOps Unleashed mod certainly looks interesting. Nice to see it's still being worked on too

Can't say I've seen many problems with Core Maximizer on either Vista or 7. So long as it's run as an administrator, it's worked well.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

I could be wrong - but I seem to remember terminal services was required and it's orf by default in 7.

Re: Steam: Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance

I can't check its dependencies at the moment (SSD RMA on the go). All I can say is that default installations of Vista and 7 have given similar results with Core Maximizer, without us having to do anything.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

I hope you've installed Forged Alliance Forever!

The community made and updated alternative to GPGnet. It's awesome. Also allows upto 12 player games

Actually a 12,000 unit battle does sound like quite a challenge

Weirdness - I'm sure I had to start "Remote Desktop Services" in 7 (that's what terminal services is now) before I got it to work (and it's listed as a requirement by the author). I just checked and it is indeed orf by default.

dangel based on your experience, what would you have to do to enable it for Window 7 / Vista then?

Start "Remote Desktop Services" from services.msc - by default it's set to "manual" and is stopped.

It's a shame no source is available - i'd happily rework it so that it didn't silently fail and on success played a clearly identifiable sound.

That is weird. Wouldn't be a Pro/Home issue would it? I've a recent Pro installation, the service is shown as having a manual startup type and is not running. Never had to enable it myself to get CM working on past, fresh installations - my nephew and friends didn't have to either (all running 7 Pro). Very strange indeed.

Quite happy to be wrong! It's disabled because most people don't want it on by default (and there are security implications). You're hearing the bing and getting the pause etc? I'd have to retest it - it's been a long while since I did this..

No, not out to try and prove you wrong mate, I'm just as puzzled as you.

We do indeed hear a ding, get a pause, then a marked improvement in performance. So long as the app has been run as admin, we've not had to do anything else.

    [wasn't implying that sorrry!]
Ah well it's all good if it works for you... i'm just reading through the author's other thread(!) on multithreading in FA and doing a bit of reading to see if it would be easy to copy his work without the code.. SetThreadAffinityMask might be a good place to poke around
