Just discussed this with the team here - interesting thing - it's possible the original terminal services requirement was relevant for XP because that may well of been the only way to do it back then.. You could well be right, it might not be required any more (although no harm) and I suppose if it's not generating and errorlog.txt it's working. Piqued my interest this..

I hadn't even considered XP, I was already onto Vista by the time SupCom was released. When the original's exe was patched to allow for 3GB memory addressing, I couldn't go back. Well spotted
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

Yeah, it was worth a try. Can't say I'm surprised at THQ not wanting to sort out over 4 years worth of keys, especially since SquEnix published the last one. Kudos to them for finally getting it on Steam though. Just need to wait for Stardock to do the same with SoaSE and GalCiv, once they've completely broken their ties with Gamestop/Impulse.

Wouldn't of minded paying a tenner for the gold edition but seeing as I want multiple copies, I'll wait for a sale. There's enough to get on with between now and the xmas anyway

Re: Steam: Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance

Steam versions of Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance are down in price. £7.49 for the Gold Edition or £4.99 each. I'm assuming it's part of the THQ Week sale. Anyway, sold!

    Edit: Deal's expired.

Re: Steam: Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance

Only got around to running the Steam version of Forged Alliance this weekend. Couldn't get Core Maximizer to kick in. After a bit of digging it turns out the Steam version includes a previously unsupported patch (3603).

The difference in performance was night and day. 10 hours of skirmishes later and the game sailed through battles which would have brought the engine to its knees before; many 100s of units battling it out and no noticeable slow down whatsoever. That along with balance changes and other tweaks, it's like playing a whole new game

I also spotted reports of people being able to active keys on Steam from versions bought elsewhere. It didn't work for my code back in September but things might have changed since.

Edit: Can confirm the retail Gold Edition does activate on Steam now

Re: Steam: Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance

    Thanks for the info Paul!
I bought the retail gold edition about 2 months ago on Amazon. I'll try to redeem the code on steam too
