Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
My girlfriend got a beta invite for the weekend just gone, we're really enjoying it so far. We've got a Sith Inquisitor to level 10, a Bounty Hunter to about 8 and an Imperial Agent to 10 - just chosen Sniper. I also got a beta invite I think for this coming weekend so we'll be able to play together which will be good fun.

Was very frustrating as it happened just before the launch of BF3, i couldn't log into Origin because previous password requirements were less strict (they let you use symbols, whereas now it's just numbers + letters). Thus, when it copied over, it didn't count my PW as being a valid PW.
Anyhow, just change your SWTOR PW now and it should be fine?
I wish it was that simple, i really do.
The problem is, SWTOR wont let me change or create an account that is the same as my Origin email, and because i cant do that when i inputted my pre-order code even though i bought it through origin it wanted me to create a new account with the email address that is on the SWTOR site. (hope that makes sense).
luckly i know the guys at EA and they are sorting for me, but still a bit silly if you ask me.

Afraid i can't really get my head around that, but as long as it's being sorted!
I don't think i'll have Republic chars. at launch, but at some point i do want to have a Vanguard and Gunslinger, just for the story. If so, i'll be sure to check out your Guild when the time comes if that's alright.

I will try and simplify it ::
My origin account is xxx@ntlworld.com
My SWTOR login email is xxx@gmail.com
My swtor account wont let me change to xxx@ntlworld.com and because the 2 are linked when i put my pre order code in it sees that no origin account has been created using the xxx@gmail.com
this is when it tries and gets you to create a new account using the xxx@gmail.com
when infact my origin account with all my games on is xxx@ntlworld.com
so if i wanted to play swtor when its released i would have to logout of my xxx@ntlworld.com address and login as the xxx@gmail.com
hardly the end of the world i know, but i want to keep all my games in one account.
just wanted to let people know this if they are thinking of pre-ordering.
Does that make more sense ?
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
That does make more sense!
Although, this may be a silly question, but could you create a new SWTOR account with the @ntlworld email?
Also, i remember reading a while back about someone in a similar situation... the devs had some sort of response in that it'd work out, but not i can't remember exactly what they said and it's too long ago to feasibly search for.

I have tried to create one with the @ntworld.com address but it wont let me ...
it says its in use which i know its not, i even tried to reset the password but nothing comes though to my email so not sure what the score is on that ...
starting to bug me now as its still not sorted.
:(

If it makes you feel any better, apparently NDA has been partially lifted from last Weekend's Testing.
So feel free to ask questions!
Although there are apparently some limitations (for some reason):
- I can't talk about stuff going on in the Tester Forums (as if you'd ask that).
- Since it's supposedly only for last weekend's testing, general questions are probably the best.
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I have read that this is just WoW with a starwars skin. What are you its thinking about It?
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
In all honesty Jay, what MMO since WoW hasn't been called "WoW with a skin"?

Well.
Lest we forget that WoW is currently one of (if not the most) profitable game out there at the moment, there's no denying its popularity.
Is it WoW with a Star Wars skin? Yeah, i guess that's one way to put it. My personal description is WoW+KoTOR (but not the other way around).
Another issue is that WoW has had numerous re-iterations and has been fairly polished up compared to the initial product (read that as, WoW has certain features that SWTOR does not have yet).
Ultimately i think questing is much more satisfying in SWTOR, the Mass Effect style conversation wheel gives it more depth and makes it feel more like a Single Player game. Also there's usually more than one way to complete a quest due to the Lightside/Darkside choice options. Sure, it all boils down to "Complete Quest -> Get Reward/XP -> Level Up", but the way it goes about it is much better than any MMO out there imo (that i've played, of course - i.e. WoW, Aion, CoH, Eve, a tiny sliver of GW).
There are obviously issues at the moment, my personal one is with progression. Levelling is rather slow (at least, it feels slow) and Classes don't really come into their own until Level 20+ (i.e. not when you choose your Advanced Class - Level 10). It's nice that your Class keeps "evolving"/growing over the course of levelling, but at the same time it can often make you feel lacking in terms of ability.
Let's just say, it's not anything like Eve Online :p.
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Do you think that this would work for those with limited time to play?
Hope its not as restrictive like Vanilla WoW was for those that just could not put 20hours+ in per week.

Definitely, it's more like a massive, multi concurrent single player game.

There is nothing quite like EVE Online! :D
The issue I have is time, I just dont have the time to actually play EVE anymore infact I haven't played any PC games for about a month.

Could you elaborate on that?
I don't see why lack of time restricts your experience?
I mean apart from the "might not make the most out of the monthly sub" issues.
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
He's referring to vanilla WoW where you had to raid for 4+ hours a night every day of the week to be able to progress, or even join a decent raiding guild. Nowadays, anyone can raid without too much of a struggle.

Progress how so?
I mean here's what the devs say:
- There will be less of a focus on Raiding (henceforth referred to as Operations) for end game (i believe there's a world dedicated to Solo End-Game called Ilum).
- Operations will still provide the best gear however. Although i'm not sure if that's PvP gear or PvE gear, i think it's the latter though.
