You know what I love about this game? You can be properly evil and you're not punished by the game artificially for doing so.
It is an engaging game, will keep my attention for a wee while yet. I like being able to dedicate minions to craft/do mundane crap.
Hopefully they will allow better UI customisability, right now its pretty rough trying to keep track of everything.
and is it me, or are the skills REALLY expensive? I'm level 21, was saving quite well, thinking I was doing ok having about 24k by that level (rising is 25k as I understand it) only to see 4800 wiped out upgrading three skills! At that rate I'll need about 40k by level 25 in order to get both skills and the riding one.
They are expensive in number, but not in terms of relative cost..i think the pricing works out similar to "that other" MMORPG - in that one it used to cost you a fortune of gold in vanilla once you got to around 1/2 the level cap. Gold was so hard to come by back then that with my first toon I would go 1-2 levels without getting all the skills, simply as I couldn't afford to, and the server economy had not been flooded with gold yet.
In practice though I don't think it's that expensive, when after level 20 you can earn thousands of credits per hour by sending your companion on missions (and I am excluding slicing here - you can make lots from treasure hunting too), and also by selling the greens+blues that are plentiful on most planets.
I actually find it much easier to make money in swtor than I did in "that other" mmorpg - maybe it's something to do with the companion skills that you have chosen? Some of them are particularly bad for making money with as they produce lots of cheap jewels etc that won't get any value until bioware bother to make the auction house usable ;)
I have to admit that after an initial week long play of swtor I have moved back to WoW for the time being..mostly as I can play wow and watch TV and play poker all at the same time - with swtor it's swtor or nothing..simply isn't possible to play it properly and do anything else, since you get so involved in the game and story. Not giving up though - when I have got through my xmas TV backlog it'l be back to swtor :)
I've got atrificing, treasure hunting and archaeology. Seems to be a money sink for now, big time. The market on my server doesn't really seem to have levelled off/established yet. Possibly as you say, the trade house is a bit...."WTF?!"
I never remembered it being so harsh in wow, even in the early days.
I thought the same thing, but when I hit 25 I had enough for riding (40k) and about 3 skills (around 4-5k each). Money is seriously easy to come by and you just get more and more as you level up, but the skills get more and more expensive too.
I am playing my Operative now, almost 20 and got my ship. I must admit, I am loving each classes story line, especially the Sith ones, they are so evil and I love it! I'm being a good boy on my Operative though just for a change.
BTW, I think I said in another post I was on The Red Eclipse, but due to the Spanish Inquisition my guild moved to Rogue Moon, so send "Allen" a whisper or mail to say hi if you play there too. :)
I'm on toot doneeta (or some other pornstar sounding server).
Had the money, just. I think I spent too much on missions to level the trade skills, have a heap of modded equipement (I thought it would be cheaper in the long run and it looks good so I can keep it current)
Thank gawd they released this fail of a patch before the first month run out.
I have just unsubscribed. I feel bad for giving them £60 already, but I will give them no more. The single player aspect is fine, in fact it's a pretty damn good storyline, but all other aspects of the game are pretty much diabolical.
PvP is what killed it for me though (pun intended). For weeks they have allowed us to be farmed easily by level 50's with expertise, and now they are allowing the majority population on any server a way to rank up in PvP in a matter of hours, instead of days/weeks, by abusing an extremely poorly though out world PvP zone. It's so absurd that they can't learn from other game's mistakes.
Anyway, enough time wasted on SW:TOR now. What's out next? :D
Guild Wars 2?
+ I heard about the glitch (and yes, it's a glitch) on Ilum with regards to Valor farming. Not sure what they're going to do (after fixing it)... maybe strip all Valor (or a percentage of it) away from all Valor gained during that period of time?
I haven't even gotten to Level 50 yet tbh. Have been rolling too many other classes and might have burnt myself out a bit. My highest Level is still the Lv39 Assassin who's been on the frozen wastes of Hoth for over a week now.
