    Outrageous RAGE

When I first heard about Bethesda had acquired id Software I was pleased because id had a bunch of talented guys whom have created some awesome games over the years. Bethesda is a great organisation and has created awesome titles. But Bethesda has a reputation for creating buggy games. Sorry to be frank but they do. Fallout 3 great games loved it to bits but …Boy was it buggy as hell. The boys and girls at Bethesda are working hard to patch RAGE to make the limited graphics options better along with removing all the bugs within the game. I cannot understand how a game took nearly 6 years to develop and another year to polish off the bugs. Now did we all think that Bethesda was going to develop a game without bugs… we should have learned from our experience with Fallout 3.

Well the patch is being developed and hopefully the bugs will be ironed out soon… although, don’t hold your breath, because Bethesda said that they would resolve all the bugs in fallout 3 and how may patches were there… about 8 of them.

    We’ll see.

    Re: Outrageous RAGE

I have had no issues at all with my system, works like a charm. Did have to do the rageconfig file to force anisotropic x4 filtering and the 8K textures. Other than that though, no tearing or anything and it is buttery smooth.

It is half to be expected with new tech though, bugs to iron out, there is no way id could test the engine on every known configuration known to man.

You'd think they'd have tried "computers with radeons" and "computers with geforces" though

    Re: Outrageous RAGE

OK - found a Rage fix for texture popins on Radeon that actually works, for me at least. Game now plays flawlessy on my humble radeon 5750.

Do all the driver updates incl the beta driver then use the following shortcut parameters

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Rage\Rage.exe" +cvaradd g_fov 12 +com_allowconsole 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +vt_maxppf 16

The key bit is the last one
    +vt_maxppf 16

I picked this one up from an interview with id at the site below:

    Re: Outrageous RAGE

Using the +cvaradd g_fov 12 +com_allowconsole 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +vt_maxppf 16 for steam and also the config fix it's now flawless on the ATi card

Was only running the config fix at first which fixed most errors, been using the config fix with the steam fix since this afternoon and its spot on.

Well worth running both fixes I would suggest

I agree there are people with their PC that won't experience any problems at all with this game. I myself have been in the same position where people are throwing their teddies out of their rams and stamping their feed in temper because they clearly fudged this game completely with Rage PC version. I have recently finished a brand new rig with high-end hardware and I've spent probably near £2,000.00 on a new rig with two GFX cards in CrossFire mode and its running like a dream. I always make sure my machine is it tip top condition. I Defrag each week and check my event logs to see if there are any issues that need addressing. I have probably nearly 40 games on Steam and out of those nearly 40 game there are probably 3 or 4 games which run but have some issues. the rest are just fine. I created my own config file and it didn't make any difference... and they are similar to what have been posted around the internet at the moment. this game has clearly been developed for consoles and it looks as though the PC version was an afterthought. although, this is not the case because most game engines these days are cross platform compatible, as well as being backward compatible. the ganesh should have been optimized for 64-bit and 32-bit... there should have been advanced graphical options as well for high-end rigs and high-end graphic cards.

AMD and NVIDIA should have had drivers ready for this game, instead of being stuck with their thumb stuck of the preverbial backside. I agree with id Software... Because they have a right to be annoyed. alkaline these years in development and another year in polishing off before going gold you would think that they eoild have tested both NVIDIA and AMD drivers before initial release. its us AMD users who array feeling the smack in the face, and the sickening feeling in the stomach the most.

    Re: Outrageous RAGE

Mainly id software at fault IMO for the showstopper issues. The single biggest bug is the flashing textures thing - and by their own admission that is a CPU load splitting (between cores) error - AFAIK this bit happens before it ever hits the GPU.

anyway - the patch seems to have sorted most issues out.

I couldn't agree more... Somebody should take ownership and stand up to the table and state "Yeah we fu***** up and we will resolve this but please be patient with us as we work on a decent patch to resolve the terrible graphical problems you have been experiencing..." Also as a good will gesture every single PC user who purchased this via Steam or retail should be given a voucher to use on Steam. I mean considering we all paid for something which in my view is one of the worst developed games of 2011 for PC.
