Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
I refer to games being blocked from steam in the UK.
Space marine was the original bugbear, now I see I cannot even view the TRAILER for the next batman game, much less preorder:

I'm SICK of this you <redacted> bilious, putrid mother <redacted> <redacted>.
What the hell is with these titles being blocked? Raaaaaaaaaaage.

Go to the kitchen. Grab a spoon, and the cooking salt. Consume a couple of spoonfuls of salt. With that caveat:
What I've heard is it's GAME behind this. They still have enough sway with publishers that they can say "allow easy and convenient digital downloads via Steam, and we might accidentally forget to buy your console games to sell to punters"
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
Yeah, I ran across all the rumours etc when I couldnt get a hold of space marine (got it in the end via online retailer, enter code into steam and voilla).
I don't care who is responsible, I just want them to stop (and possibly die a horrible death if they don't)
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
Heard the same responses too and I'm not happy with it either. Sooner the practice stops the better. To hell with the brick and mortar stores, they've not supported my platform properly in years, why should I support them. I'm going to get it on Steam eventually anyway so why not take my money now.
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
Part of me is convinced it must somehow be illegal. But the other part of my is cynical enough to think it's not.
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
When this happens I use Greenman Gaming or ShopTo for their PC download pre orders and you get the codes on release to stick into Steam, it's what I did for Space Marine and I will be doing the same for Batman :) Although saying that, this game may make you download it via GfWL instead of steam, not sure how the GfWL games work on greenman, but all my other games I have used them for have been steam codes.
Greenman pre-order:

Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
I did that for space marine, but it's not the point (also not sure how well it'll work with DLC but we shall see). There's a 20% off offer on pre-order on Arkham city if you have asylum or lego batman...
Even that isn't the point. The point is retailers are taking the piss and I'm suffering from a lack of sleep, a crappy cold and a severe bout of intolerance/general rage issues today and I've had it with these punks.
How dare they, the people who turned their back on PC gaming YEARS ago, lash out at it now and inconvenience people all because they missed the boat with digital? Ok I'm just ranting now.
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
Just start buying your games from online key stores.
The more people that buy Russian/Chinese keys, the better the chance that this practice will stop.....as well as these:
-UK gets release after rest of world
-UK Pay more then rest of the world

The practice needs to stop but the more of us who actively go out to seek the alternative way to get it online for PC without using companies that are trying to stop it the more vain the practice will look as we get around the issue anyway and still get it on release days :D
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
Not to mention that in my experience steam can be the most frustrating thing to use at times (Not at the point they take your money interestingly enough).
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
Yes...I'm sure GAME has nothing to do with it.
This announcement is mere coincidence, I'm certain...

Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
I hate it when games are produced here but when you try to buy it over Steam, you get that retarded message.
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
I just hate that retailers, who for at least the last 5 years have dedicated less shelf space to PC gaming than a hillbilly does for books, are bitching about an online distro group. More rage inducing though, is the fact its now causing me inconvenience.
Although that Game story suddenly makes perfect sense, the only thing (apart from their denial and companies never lie right?) that stopped me believing it was them is there was no benefit to it, they'd left that market behind. Now that has radically changed and with it, my willingness to believe they're not at it.
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
I bought Space Marine via Amazon as I wanted the Collectors version and have no intention of purchasing a game via steam anyway, but it is annoying that you cannot see the SM page as it is not available in the UK but you need steam to play the game.
If Game UK is behind this block then I don't understand why, all the Game stores near me carry very little in the way of PC games, most of the PC games on display are things like Fork Lift Truck Simulator, Tractor Simulator etc.
Since they show little interest in PC gaming then why force Steam to block Space Marine in the UK, its not like you can buy the XB360 or PS3 versions via steam.
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
The thing to find out is if it is available in the rest of Europe and just not the UK, because if it is, it will be in breach of the EU trading laws as shown by the lady who got sport from a europian supplier rather than Sky. It would nto be so bad is Game were not such a rippoff.
Re: Steam. This is getting beyond a joke.
I'm 99% sure it is UK only. I can see the batman preorder in the german site.
You sure it is in breach though? After all, it's a case of a publisher refusing to stock at a <vendor>. I'm not sure it's illegal, although it would be delightful if it was.
