    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

It seems people have been dumping reasonably decent rigs and upgrading to new ones to play BF3 and it seems many CPUs from the last few years are fine.

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

imo, the typical component 'life' has been artificially extended by the overlong console dominated period. Some folks aren't used to this/ain't adjusted

To add to above, I'm dipping under 40 in the 64 player MP maps, but I'm well over the default recommended settings.

When I first loaded everything was high, AF 16x, AO@HBAO all at 1680*1050 in the rig specced here with zero OCing. AA deferred defaulted to off.

Right now I have 2x MSAA jacked up, shadows|terrain deco |AA post are on high, the rest ultra.

Campaign is high FPS for the mission so far (45-55), MP dips when it all kicks off.

With ref to CPUs, it's not maxing mine, I'm GPU bound (no surprises) but I'm surprised (in the right way) at the smoothness.

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

Just FYI - I found the game would freeze/crash if I tried to update the video settings.
On checking the forums this seems fairly common. I found that when I go into OPTIONS in the game and change a video setting and press APPLY FULLSCREEN it will lock up the game always but if I make the setting and press BACK and Save and OK, the change works.

I'm getting very playable frame rates on my old Q6700 with a GTX 285 at 1920x1080. Settings on auto and it looks great. This game doesn't need a new pc (mines 3 years old now)

OK after a few in-game MP fraps runs, I'm getting some big swings.

    15 138 74.833

This is on all Ultra settings with 4xMSAA

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

Im playing on a GTX275 and it's running well enough at medium settings, 1680x1050, 4xAA.

I'm so close to buying now, hovering over the "Confirm Order" button but now Im thinking I can hold out for a few more weeks now I now the old card can handle it.

I need a new build but at the moment my 5770 runs the game fine. Which is a lifesaver at the moment as I'd like to hold off upgrading to see how the 7000 series pans out. Just sucks my psu dcides to go pop a week after release.

Haha, my friend bought a new graphics card specifically to play BF3 - that's how much it meant to him xD

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

Bit tech (I think) down locked an i7 to 2ghz and it still gave the same fps, also disabled 2 cores with the same result. Found that hard to believe myself.

    1,920 x 1,080, DirectX 11, Ultra Detail Preset

    i7 965 @

    2Ghz
    2.5Ghz
    3Ghz
    3.3Ghz
    3.3Ghz (No HT)
    3.3Ghz (with 2 cores disabled)

    Also tried only 2/4/6GB DDR3..

All give the same fps....madness, I find it hard to believe although it's obviously GPU limited but they dont mention which GPU they used looking at the number it was probably a 6950.

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

Just to bring the discussion level to the bottom end of the hardware rung, I'm running this on a early 2011 Macbook Pro 17.

Was umming and arrring whether to bother buying this game or not due to hardware requirements, but it's surprisingly playable. I didn't even bother attempting any high settings and went straight to 1280x800 @Medium. So far so good. If anyone's interested I'll do a fps check.
