    BF3 hardware requirements thread

I thought I would start a thread with articles investigating what hardware you need for BF3.

    Tom's Hardware

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/battle...iew-32308.html

    sweclockers

    http://www.sweclockers.com/artikel/1...attlefield-3/1

    Techspot

    http://www.techspot.com/review/458-b...3-performance/

    Guru3D

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/battle...enchmark-test/

It seems even a dual core with a reasonably clockspeed even with a high end single GPU card like a GTX580 will be fine. It seems that an HD6990 might need a faster CPU but even a Phenom II X4 or X6 will produce playable framerates.

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

Fraps tells me that I'm doing never less than 70FPS.
Mind you - I'm not sure the game looks as good as BC2. Can't put my finger on it, but possibly textures, bloom or something.

A quick review tells me that it is mostly set to "HIGH" with textures on "ULTRA"

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

So in short, with the current set of drivers:

Ultra/ultra high res - You need 580 SLI

Ultra/high res - You need high end SLI/XF to beat 60fps

    High/high res - single 6950/570 or better

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

I'm gonna fire FRAPS up on the SP today I think, pretty chuffed with performance on my rig but I don't think for a second I'm hitting 60fps.

I'm thinking that I have the headroom to bump up some of those settings. I'll have a go later.

If you just want to see a readout you can put "render.drawfps 1" in console.

It was the graphing I was looking for. easy to miss numbers on a live count like fraps

Toms Hardware used an HD5850 1GB at stock speeds. Your framerates look about the same and I suspect they did not use AA like you did.

    They don't mention AA/AF though?? (plus it's a different map) Also I'm running 11.9 not 11.10

Updated the graph, sorry but I've probably killed your link to that image CAT

    Re: BF3 hardware requirements thread

    From another forum:

    Get in a match

    Bring down the console

    Type Render.PerfOverlayEnable 1

    Type Render.PerfOverlayVisible 1

This will display a graph over your map area (left corner). You want both lines to be as low as possible. If one line is higher than the other, then it's taking longer to render and is a possible bottleneck on your system.

Going Hunting is probably the stupidest level TH could have chosen to benchmark, it's a little bit of 'normal' map making your way upto the deck then it's basically a flight sim level.
