    BF3 and 'hacking' / cheating

Playing the 'Metro' map today gave me huge kills - there are several points in the map where you can sit down and pick off the droves as they *keep* rushing through the choke points. And so shouts of 'hacking n00b'. Which is nice.

Which makes me think; there is a site which develops and sells aimbots to all, for many MMOFPS. A) Punkbuster seems to be worth nothing to these devs, b) This is a legit business, don't EA etc. have anything to say about this?

Re: BF3 and 'hacking' / cheating

I have seen in servers mesages come up along the lines of 'player kicked, use of aimbot' ect.

But how effective punkbuster is i don't know. But it's doing something.

Re: BF3 and 'hacking' / cheating

PB is just like an antivirus in terms of effectiveness. it's only as good as it's last update. New bots will wander through quite easily; being designed in particular to evade it, just like the latest greatest zero-day exploit with leave your AV in the foetal position, crying. Generally though, it works pretty well, when combined with the PBBans system and decent server admin.

Going from the number of times I've been accused of hacking just because I had a good round, leads me to suspect there are a lot more sore losers than real hackers.

I've seen a few suspicious ones, people going 63-3 on Tehran for example are very suspicious, seen similar on Davamand too.

    Seems to be rare though.

Just been on a server and seen loads of people kicked for hacks, one every 5 mins I would say.

Don't understand what satisfaction is gained from playing with an aimbot.

If the purpose of using an aimbot is purely to rank up and get the better weps quick, I saw a video on YouTube yesterday about easy rank-ups.
2v2 people on each team, takes turns to kill one, the other revives, and so the cycle continues. Apparantly can take you from Lv1 to 1st General in about 20-30mins.

i saw a video of a couple of guys doing that on bf2 once they were all clan mates and they would kill a guy and one clan member wouold be on the team of the guy that just died he'd get revived then immediately killed over and over. Was all over youtube at the time dunno if they ever got banned.

i dont quite understand that i like working for my unlocks i feel a sense of achievement getting a weapon, especially in BF2 as you had to work so hard to get them

I'd prefer to unlock normally, but some servers out there give massive amounts of xp for each kill, but dont mention this in the server name. Unlocks are buggered now.

Re: BF3 and 'hacking' / cheating

I'm pretty crap at BF3 but I do flipping well enjoy, it including a 398M head shot with the SVD (and the crap first scope) at the weekend I've seen some questionable goings on including a guy taking me out with a head-shot as I ran in a room when he was facing the other way. :| whether its hacking, bad net-code or me being crap (most likely) is open to debate. My advice, find a good server with good team play and get far more out of the game.

Play on Hardcore servers. That way, when they start doing that, you can stop them by simply shooting them in their big fat stupid face.

Re: BF3 and 'hacking' / cheating

The thing is its very hard to prevent because unlike with the AV metaphor, these guys are ACTIVELY trying to get this software to run. As a result punk buster and the like are doomed in an arms race.

Its more of one of those things that's solved by having punk buster silently detect and not immediately flag, then banning the lot of them, having their CD-keys revoked etc.

But as we've seen on this forum, where a member was blatently busted (after posting a screen shot, showing his search history lol) he still tried to deny it. Odd physicology at play imho.

    here here

I can have 3 really bad CoD W@W maps.. then have a properly awesome map win.. and you jut know it's all gonna kick off with the people who don't know me.

But W@W is pretty tidy and clean of hackers so it's not so bad... CoD4 was and is horrific.

Re: BF3 and 'hacking' / cheating

It's really down to the server admins and also EA in terms of how cheat-free they can keep their servers..to use PB effectively they must both use all of its features - and I am not sure that they do.

This means that the server admins must enable to "talk back" features of PB (So that the bans get reported to the PB master servers and recorded there), and that EA must take that feed and global ban the cheaters on ALL games linked to the origin account.

I don't think that EA do this at the moment - if you cheat on BF3 and the admin has talk back enabled then it just bans you on BF3..really it should ban you from every online game possible (which in reality would just be all of your Origin games). This is covered in the terms of use of origin (one of it's better clauses!) but not enforced as I understand it.

Valve sort of do this with VAC bans, but they tend to ban by engine rather than over your entire account, which is a shame..I am hopeful that they will get to it eventually.

Cheaters are the scum of online gaming and don't deserve the right to play on the public internet imo.
