Were the saves made on a different computer/account? Sounds like there's some problem reading/writing to the files. Presume you've tried running Steam as admin?

Nope, all files made on the same pc - as I said I can start a brand new game with a new character, play the game just fine, but as soon as I save and exit out I am no longer able to load the brand new save... if that makes any sense?
Basically a brand new save made 5 mins previously from a brand new game wont load at all!
Yeah I understand the issue you're having, just trying to figure out what might cause it. Is your My Documents setup normal/default ? Is there anything odd about the save file size or folder? (Should be My Documents/My Games/Skyrim/Saves with the first save around the 3mb size).

Yup all the folders in the same place - just tried deleting everything from the My Docs folder (the whole skyrim folder, saves, ini's the lot) - rebuilt via steam integrity check - start a new game, clear the character build section and save, exit out...
On trying to load the new save file the game now immediately crashes to desktop with no error!
So no stuck on the loading screen anymore!
If I put my old saves and ini's back it goes back to hanging on the loading screen.
The stupid thing is I was fine on the old patch, and I had the game set to NOT auto-update for this very reason! Steam updated anyway, and theres no option to uninstall and reinstall without the patch!
LAA patch out. Should help mitigate crashes caused by running out of address space.
An accelerator injector has been released by some modders - replaces some code in memory and allows for some use of SSE instructions in place of x87, reducing the CPU bottleneck in towns significantly:

I already have Skyrim on the ps3 and I was wondering if it was a good idea to get it on the pc as well for the modding purposes, I have a couple of questions however.
On the ps3 Skyrim crashes my ps3 sporadically, it will be fine for days and then it will crash 3 times within an hour until I get frustrated and just turn it off, does the pc have these problems if you run it without/with mods?
I'm left handed and as such I use the mouse with my left hand and generally use arrow keys to move in games, is it possible to remap the keys to such a configuration in Skyrim or would it be wise to use my 360 controller or a ps3 style controller for playing on the pc?
The PC stability varies according to the computer that it's being run on. It's ultra stable for me (one clean crash to desktop in 86 hours of play, and that was probably my fault for trying to do too much in the background), but my wife's computer does crash more often (perhaps once every 10 hours). This crashing should be much reduced with the latest patch so we'll see.
You can map the keys to such a configuration, but some functions might not map correctly, so you might have to still use 'q' for favourites for example. Playing with the X360 controller is fully supported and works well from what I've heard.
The toolset hasn't been released yet though, so I'd wait for that before getting it so there is a chance to assess the stability with the latest patch first.
It's good to know the controller is a good option, my pc isnt the greatest so I'm not expecting to play at the highest settings or anything but I'ld at least like to be able to play a stable game so I might wait for a patch like you mentioned.
Thanks a lot for your help![]()
No problem. It's actually more stable on older computers it seems. The current instability seems to be caused by having setting turned up so high that the process runs out of memory address space. If you lower the settings the game doesn't crash. What the most recent patch (two days ago?) did was enable the game to address more memory so potentially avoid the issue for those playing on higher settings. People will always find a way to increase the settings even more though!
1.4 beta is now available (opt into beta from Steam to get it).
Lots of bug fixes including quest fixes, and people are reporting huge FPS gains in cities due to the compiler optimisation.
Usual beta stuff applies (create new saves or back up your old ones). You can give feedback on the patch here:

Might have to opt in then because I`m getting random crashes
I`m saving every couple of minutes atm lol
New beta out. This one fixes some issues seen with the original beta:
•Fixed occasional audio issue that would play sound effects louder than intended
•Master Criminal achievement/trophy unlocks properly in French, German, Spanish and Italian
•Fixed issue where dragon priest masks would not render correctly
•Fixed issue where player would be unable to become Thane of Riften if they purchased a home first
Performance boost on my laptop is about 10fps in Citys, used to average 20-22 fps now 31-34 depending on facing. Was also able to turn on Vsync again without too bigger loss, noticed its not worth turning off also as it screws up the time of day and quests.

Preview video of the new creation kit is out, looks mighty cool.
