Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I went into Geirmund Hall for a quest last night, texturing on the walls and ground looks sharper, weapons look sharper (no pun intended), characters have a lot more detail. The frostbite spiders in there have sharp looking spined ridges on them now and the Drauge (Zombie type enemies) look a lot better.

Will have a look around some areas that are a bit more familiar though, think thats the best way, places like my home, Riften & Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary

Any good mods out there terbinator that you`d suggest?
The "Open Cities" mod looks amazing tbh although is supposed to murder performance. It essentially means you can go up to Markath (in the current version) and when you open the city gate there is no loading screen and you can just ride in or whatever on your horse.

Other than that, the only mods i messed about with pre-CK/HR textures was the 2k texture pack (which didn't cover as much stuff as Bethesda's), and improved water textures and water audio mods - the latter two i would recommend looking into.

Maybe now there are some better vanilla textures in the game, modders will be able to produce even better oens so i'd stray form any extra texture packs atm. It should be noted though, the water texture seems toned down in the new texture pack compared to the mod i had beforehand.

Edit: BTW, patch 1.4 w/HR textures gives me 45-50FPS from Dragonsreach with the system on the left @ stock - full settings.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Actually found a mod that sorts my shadow problem. Only works on Breezehome and one other area at the moment but its a start and fixes the sripey shadows I was getting.

Performance wise still getting what I was prior to the HD textures.

I must admit I am really impressed with the Steam Workshop, to get a mod literally just hitting subscribe and the next time you start its in your data files. It was easy enough modding Oblivion with OBMM but this is so much better, everything is in one place.

Also means that you dont have to hunt about for the mod patches like with the Oblivion mods, they get updated via the workshop and therfore your game.

I think you should get half decent performance with what you have, the processor you have and 6Gb ram should definately help. Why not try dropping the res down a touch to 720p (1280x720)
Ah yes I should update my profile. A recent birthday combined with RAM prices hitting a minimum means I now have 12gb DDR3 2000mhz ram (cas 9) . Granted, I can't overclock my memory controller enough to use it at full speed (on my current undervolt) so it's just acting as OC headroom and tight timings at the moment.

Maybe should have spent the money on a new graphics card.. but photo editing likes the RAM

But yes, I do get very decent performance in Skyrim, just probably VRAM limited when it comes to high res texture (still not had a chance to try yet). I'd rather not drop the overall resolution though just to get slightly sharper textures - would undo the work

Will report back when I've had a chance to test.

Which mod? I assume you mean the weird shadows around the cooking pot in Breezehome, and if you do, I'd like to sort those - at the moment I just try to run past as quickly as possible. (I've used Breezehome as the main house since early in my game, and I'm a bit set in my ways now )

In data files its called Shadow Striping Fix, same in the Steamworks, currently on page 9 after you click most popular.

Basically when you look at shadows in Breezehome and a few other areas the shadows instead of being projected properly they look like stripes instead of being solid. This mod addresses it and fixes the issue. Only in 2 places at the min (Breezehome & Proudspire Manor) but its just a new mod so its a decent start that will get even better.

There really needs to be a search feature rather than having to go page after page looking for mods.

Heh.. HD textures would be a 'no' for me then Stable.. but too slow. Wish I'd had some monitors active to see what my computer was doing behind the scenes with memory

Yuk horrible (and doesn't always play nicely with steam OSD) I've got GPUz for that, I just didn't have it monitoring when I played.

hmm - just noticed what seemed longer load times getting back to Breezehome to check the striping shadows fix (Edit: which works great - thanks Ferral!). Might have to play a bit with switching off the HD textures and back on again to see if I can tell a visual difference.

I assume you can just disable/enable the highrestexturepack.esp files as you would with any other esp?

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

i have played this game for a good 50 hours and i can say that i am very happy that i bought it. i played the some of the other elder scrolls games and can say that i am enjoying this game the most. i can seriously recommend this game for any rpg lover. if i have any advice or tips for this game it would be to play as a high elf and use the bound sword spell. i think it may be the most overpowered sword in the game or if you simply want to run around with a sword made out of light.
