    BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

    Hi guys,

Looks like this is a major problem.

How many here are experiencing crash to desktop in Multiplayer? I'm not sure if i happens in single player, not played enough to test. Normally by game will last about 1 and a games, before it decides to drop out.

If you google for Battlefield 3 crash to desktop, there's loads of stuff on it, but strangely nothing here?

My specs are. i7, 6gb Ram, 570 EVGA GTX HD

Been running at the game at Medium to see if that made a difference, but sadly didn't.

Seen some post about applying more voltage to the GPU.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3loMgfW4Sr8

But mine appears to be locked. But really i shouldn't need to do this.

Looks like it's over to Dice to apply a patch.

Re: BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

I get CTD before even getting into a CO-OP game almost every time if I try to play that first, if I go into a normal MP game, play for a bit, come out and then try CO-OP it seems to work fine...
This is with mild OCs on my GPU, happens whether I downclock or not. Not tested with downclocking my CPU.

    Explain that one

I get CTD every now and again, mate of mine gets it some map changes, or gets a black screen, neither of us are overclocked.

Re: BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

    CTDs are very common.

Played last night with four people (two others were fellow hexites). We all experienced CTDs.

Somewhere in there is a great game. When it works, it is awesome. They just need to get the surrounding issues sorted.

Re: BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

Add a Antivirus real time scanner exclusion for the BF3 directory. That might fix the CTD's. If not, at least it will speed up loading times a bit.

Do you get a Blue flashing square in the bottom right of your screen when this black screen appears? If you do its down to the way the server is configured or if a server admin screws up server seeding. Done this myself

Basically what happens is if you play a map like TDM with 24 people then the server admin forgets to raise the player count to 32 at the end of the round before switching to a Rush map with 32 players. 24 people will be able to connect fine and the other 8 get a black screen with flashing blue square.
The server starts a new round with whatever player limit was set at the end of the previous round annoyingly.

its a program you install with some graphics cards (Asus) maybe some others im not sure

But its a simple add/remove programs job in control panel.

highlight it then click "un-install" simples

Re: BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

no experience with BF3 at all... so this is simply generic advice:

Crash to Desktop is, in my experience, mostly created by SOUND CARD issues.

Try changing the sound card settings, lower or raise the quality if available. Make changes in Windows sound settings, such as moving away from 5.1 to 2.0 or vice a versa.

Re: BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

Yes sound may be the issue.

I have an Asus sound card and because of that i logged into the BIOS and disabled my onboard sound. Since then i've had no issues.

Re: BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

I have at least five different types of crashes plus netwrok dropouts.

BSODs - Reported as video driver bug.
CTD - No reports generated. Appears randomly, but usually just after launch.
Buzzing lockup - No reports, but appears to be sound card related.
    Black/whitescreens - BF.exe has stopped working (?)
Thermal - CF 5870s to blame there. New CAP 11.1 has helped a lot.
Network dropout - Rubbish connection on my part. BT and TalkTalk are only options though.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Re: BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

if it is possible to run the game with sound disabled.... try it.

IF most of the CTD are from people with Onboard sound or older PCI sound card with older drivers, it might well be that.

BSOD less likely to be sound.

I know it goes against the grain, but it's WORTH ruling out overheating etc by UNDER CLOCKING the CPU a tad. Take the side off the case and stick a house fan next to it... and try again.

Realtemp tells me the CPU never goes above 55C. Well within bounds for a 920.
The 5870s on the other hand....<she canna take any more cap'n>
