for those of you interested in Rfactor 2, the open beta is now available. You will need to pre order a copy though so it's only any good if you intend on buying the game.

I like Live for Speed (www.lfs.net), graphics are average but works great with my wheel.. after I've blown the dust off it that is.

if you are wanting a good racing simulator then i would advise you to look at going for a console as the analogue controls are easier to use for a car game. if you are wanting the most realistic racing game i would go for GT5 as it is very accurate and looks gorgeous. i would also say for the best possible experience get a wheel ad pedals but that bumps up the price even further. if you are wanting a fun and not so serious racing game i would go for a need for speed game. i don't really enjoy that series of games myself but a lot of people would highly recommend them to you.

i would also thoroughly recommend you getting 18 wheels of steel : extreme edition as i am yet to find a better truck driving simulator

    Re: Driving Simulators

Allen, if you're still playing or at least interested, did the controller have full analogue control in the triggers?

I ask because I have had to switch between control methods for a long time now and when moving to what was then the original large Xbox pad, I had no problems with the games mentioned (they would have been my recommendations had I seen the thread at the time).

Amongst others, that was with GTR and GT Legends on an XP system. I wouldn't have the fine control for long durations now, but I was able to run lap after lap with none of the car assistance options enabled regardless of whether I was using a wheel or the Xbox controller. Either control method was entirely practical.

I gave up with F1 2010 on Windows 7 last year as the acceleration and braking felt digital on a 360 controller, which is another part of why I'm asking. As with Project CARS until last weekend, it was the same with a wheel too (that's now fixed). I haven't been back to the controller, but something wasn't right despite appearances of everything being okay.

Here's me thinking I might find a decent "driving" simulator in this thread somewhere and all I see are "Racing" simulators.

There is not one single proper driving simulator listed in this thread.

What sort of thing did you have in mind? I think most of the people I know would not be interested in a package that simulates driving in the real world and following the highway code, the car enthusiasts that I know all want to experience open wheel racing or high end supercars in as much realism as they can get on their PC and a racing sim lets them to this to this extreme.

Yup I understand that so call it what it is a Racing Sim not a Driving Sim

    It's just me being pedantic
