Could someone please explain Vectors and Height. By my guessing Vector is direct, using a compass? I know what height is, I just don't know what they mean when they say Height: 01
Any help would be great![]()

Yeah, vector is a compass heading from your point...
So a vector 090 from YOUR point will take you to a totally different place as a vector 090 from where I would be. When you're listening in on friendly radio traffic, don't think that a vector you hear means you'll end up with the other planes... it just tells you which direction they're heading... to meet up with them you'll need to know where they are when they turned onto a particular Vector.
The height is easy... its measured in 1000's of metres, so 01=1000m, 02=2000m and so on... 14 = 14,000m.

I don't really get the compass either (sorry for being a hassle) in the BF 110 it has North South etc but it also has stuff like 12 and 30 on it, I don't get it?
Vector to hombase is from where you are... so if they say fly 060 then you head that way.
I'm pretty sure that 01=1000m, but as I'm at work I'm willing to eat humble pie on this one cos I can't be certain without checking....
(I WAS certain until I read Moby's post... now I'm not so sure...)
I've just been playing IL and I think you are correct Deck, the flight alt for my sortie was 1000m and they kept saying Height: 01
Do you know anywhere where they have an explanation of how to use the compass type thing?
Cheers
I'm pretty sure that's how it is with height - but then it's ages since I've played one of those missions.
The vectors they give are for your next compass heading, assumning you are on course and following the route correctly. If you aren't then you'll to work out where you are and make a correction to get back on course.
When you call the base and ask for the way home the vector is always from your position.

I was watching the calls to the enemy bombers in a VEF mission today. 055 equalled 5500m, so presumably 001 would be 100m, 010 = 1000m and so on.

height...also known as Angles
If i say "Angles 20" (flying for russians) would mean am at two thousand meters ASL (Above sea level). If i say "Angles 20" flying for the RAF or USAF, it would mean twenty thousand feet ASL.
However in this game we are forced to use metric standards; so Angles 20 = 2000m (01=100m and so on)

'Angels' Kras, not 'angles'geddit right
as in 'Angels One Five' http://www.classicvideo.ch/FilmSheet.cfm?ID=14038 - one of the finest and corniest movies about the RAF in WWII. I still get a tear in my eye when Septic diesHis dying words over the RT, as his plane plummets, are something like, 'tell the tiger our race will have to wait.' (The Tiger being their CO) - how bloody stiff upper lip is that?

I hope they change this for BoB so that we get speed in knots, distance in nautical miles, and altitude in feet. Or, at the very least, give people an option.Originally Posted by PE_Kras

When's BoB arriving, year and a half, 2 years? After Pacific Fighters i presume?
pacific fighters i believe is this December.
As for BoB......2005 second quater, but with Pacific fighters i recon it will be delayed until the 3rd quater minimum.
Start saving up now for your PC upgrade now and play BoB they way its ment to
PCI Express is finally taking off....tata AGP.
I wonder how am going to feel playing coop missions where heinkels are bombing my house in London. And i better start getting used to these .303's ....no Hispanos in BoB![]()
