If it is fairly easy to get it running I'll give it another go.

To play again you will need to download the client as any old discs you have won't work. LOTRO has migrated from CodeMasters to Turbine and i'm afraid your old account will no longer be active (although 2-3 weeks it's unlikely you have lost *that* much )

It's a rather large download at circa 12GB and does take a while to do.

Once installed, go to add/remove programs and get rid of pando media server (something like that) it's a sort of torrent client to help distribute the client to others who want to download.

Aside from that, your ready to go

    Re: Lotro

    ^ just to add..

if it was a US turbine LOTRO you played back in 2007, i would try and find the account you used, because your characters will still be there and they will have counted as VIP and itll now be premium, so theyll have swift travel to the stables they discovered, all trait slots unlocked, a 5G gold cap, instead of the 2G for f2p. be able to trade money between characters. and possibly a few other benefits. oh yeah, and faction reputation you got will apply the turbine points. the other deeds you did wont.

if it was codemasters lotro, then just start afresh.

    Re: Lotro

Well I'm from the UK so I presume it is Codemasters? Although I don't remember Codemasters being anything to do with it and only remember turbine.

When Star Wars Galaxies first came out I ordered it from Canada and played on US servers until the European servers came out. I presume this didn't happen with this game? I think I actually ended up paying for a couple of months subscription as I forgot to cancel it (unless I'm getting mixed up with Warhammer).

So having paid for the game originally I'll have nothing whatsoever to show for it?

    Cheers for the info btw.

    Re: Lotro

You should have a CodeM account which you created when you first purchased the game and registered. Billing was done through click&buy at the time.

Once you log in to the CodeM account the migration button should still be there to move your account over to Turbine, hopefully you wont lose your characters and they are still doing it.

Just noticed on steam that LOTRO is now free to play as well as Dungeons and Dragons Online, either worth taking a look at?

    Re: Lotro

Yeah, they are both worth playing. Both games are run by Turbine so it is 1 account to rule them all (I'll get my coat!! )

LOTRO is a HUGE game and the whole world is a perfect representation of Tolkiens world. Only thing I dont like is the map markers (Different coloured rings) for the quest locators can be a little difficult to see on the map, its not a massive gripe though as carefully looking at the map changing the ring colour (You can change the colour of quest markers) then you can see what is what. Only other minor gripe I personally have is that I bought the gold edition of the game and subscribed for 6 months when it was released, some of the areas available to me at the time are now not available, they have however been opening up stuff to standard F2P players though. Visually it is a beautiful looking game and has full DX10 support (Think they have incorprated DX11 also but not 100% sure).

D&D Online is another decent game I havnt played it to much though, what I have is standard type D&D MMO flavour.

Good thing about the Turbine games is that you can purchase extra stuff in the store with Turbine Points, these points can actually be earned through doing things ingame so if you dont mind redoing stuff you can get loads of points and never have to lay down any cash if you dont want to, you can save up enough points to buy the expansion packs which are big in their own right. Another plus point is that it is genuinely F2P, not pay to win type stuff that a lot of the F2P games tend towards.

If you are going to lay any cash down the only thing I would suggest buying ASAP is a horse to get around quicker with it being such a huge world (LOTRO).

    Re: Lotro

If you missed the account migration, you're stuffed. Turbine won't transfer your CM account any more. Lost 200+ levels worth of toon that way, with Turbine quoting privacy laws as the reason.

Still, back on Snowbourne and enjoying the game with a new set of toons. Will echo the general comments that it's a fun game, albeit I feel it's a little nerfed now... mobs are easier to kill and solo options for the big quest series so you hardly need PUGs anymore.
