    Mass effect 3 demo!

Released now, search through the origin client store to find it!

    Whose played it then?
Ive gone through it once and im not sure whats wrong but it feel very different to ME2 in a really bad way too, running is like a flipping spaz! Graphics look pretty naff somehow worse than ME2 iirc, hopefully they launch a day1 high resolution texture pack for pc cause its worse than skyrim... Seems to be dumbed down a bit more from ME2 which again is even worse, ME2 was the sweet point between FPS and action RPG, now it seems just more of an fps...

Still keeping my preorder but im not expecting OMGZ moment when i install it, those days are gone i think .

    Re: Mass effect 3 demo!

I turned it off after 5 minutes, although i may not be the best judge as i completely rate ME1 over ME2 (GoW in space).

Edit: If you pre-order ME3 on Origin you also get a free version of BF3 - might be quite the steal for some.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I loved ME1 however i found overall the story felt better in ME2, maybe it was just better graphics that made me like ME2 more .

No way I'm gonna play DEMO. I mean, Mass Effect series is the best series I have ever played, but I rather wait on full version.

I'll be buying ME3 no matter what happens... I would probably even accept some horrific DRM thing just because I've enjoyed ME1 and 2 so much.

Demo would be nothing more than a spoiler.

    Re: Mass effect 3 demo!

Well, I downloaded it at about 230 this morning, as I just wanted to see how it ran performance wise, but skipped all dialogue and cutscenes, and didnt even have the sound up. It ran very well on my setup which I am pleased about, but I echo Hicks' statement about it just feeling wrong.

Dunno if i just havent played it for ages, but thinking of installing ME2 again to compare. Movement feels wrong, and something about the controls that I cant pin down, want to see what the old default mapping were.

On the graphics front, I dunno, I swear the models/faces in cutscenes just looked wrong? Yep, textures not great, you would have thought they would have some better assets - but its not terrible I guess. Also, on the tactical pause screen, if you play at high resolution, the icons are tiny - again will have to compare with ME2.

But to be honest, I dont care what the delivery platform is, what it looks like in the end. I'll buy it, otherwise I wont get to finish what is a wonderful main storyline. Cant wait. And yes, I got all this from about 5 minutes of playtime

He runs like a complete spack, and the guns have a little bit too much recoil for my liking - but by damn it's epic. Reminded me a bit of Empire. It's all about the story. To be honest I've always thought the combat in ME was hit-and-miss.

Totally agreed. There are so many flaws with Mass Effect, but it never stops it from being one of the best series I've ever played.

    Re: Mass effect 3 demo!

thats quite true, i think maybe im being more picky on the bases that ME2 was solid for me it just seems odd to change the way characters run when it wasnt flawed to begin with!.

Im hoping for the true ME immersion i normally feel in this series, no idea why but even if the choices are mundane and useless as alot seem to say, it really makes me get into the game and story . Although i hope the start is a bit different as it seems to have missed out a huge chunk of prologue as the gap between what i remember happening on ME2 and to the start of ME3 im wondering, WTF happened .

    Oh crap....(possible me2 spoiler)

I remember my last game save on me2 was me finishing it the way i wanted bar one major thing, didnt get to the reapers intime so my whole crew died and i even lost the Geth at the end.... FECK need to redo that before hand, installing now!:L

    Re: Mass effect 3 demo!

I managed to have another quick playthrough, and after a little more time, the combat itself is as smooth as it was in ME2, though need to get used to all the powers before etc, combining them. its just the movement that seems off, but I'm sure that I will get used to it. Managed to get it looking a bit better by tweaking the colours, but they have definitely not learned their lesson from the first 2 games as some of the textures (albeit only in the dialogue cutscenes) are terrrible, especially compared to the textures that are in-game, walking/combat.

Cant wait to finish the game. Really wanting to see what the effect of some of my choices are going to be!!!

Also, I never got round to buying other DLC for it, but wasnt the very last one a bit strange because it actually ran as part of the main story and gave more information about what was would be happening inbetween the 2 games, rather than being a totally self contained storyline? Might have to quickly get it to play or read up on at least.

Loading up and going through ME2 has made me realise how well polished ME2 was, hoping that 3 can carry itself in the same way.

I think you're right, and it was designed for people who hadn't, and didn't want to play ME1, so they could experience the storyline and get into ME2.

I haven't bothered with the DLC either, massively overpriced. The game has dropped dramatically in price, but Bioware are the only sellers of the DLC and they've kept it at the same price. Buying the DLC would've cost me 3 times what I paid for the game a little while ago on Steam.

I wonder - does anything choices wise from the DLCs carry over into the final game? Wouldnt have thought so, but after talking about them above, I had a look at the DLCs on the Bioware site and might pick them up today seeing as I am in ME mode...

That's a good question, no idea to be honest. I think it's unlikely, as most of the DLC was fairly minor. For ME2 one of them was a tournament-type shooter mini-game, one was the site of the crash-landing. The merc guy was a DLC character as well. None of them really had decisions that would impact the final game.

Besides, I've read that they're having enough trouble coding ME3 given the flexibility in team members from previous games - i.e. how many of them are actually still alive.

    Re: Mass effect 3 demo!

Jim, those were some of the earlier ones that came near the launch, but the main later ones are Overlord, Kasumi's Memory, lair of the shadow broker and Arrival (the one I spoke about above). These are are all proper side missions to be played.

Thinking about it again, they do all seem independent, but wasnt sure about the shadow broker one in case he is/isnt in the last one. Anyway, on the bioware site, 560 points (which is the cost of one dlc) costs the same as 1200 points, so I might just buy a load, and for under £20 get all the dlcs ans have plenty of points left for the no doubt to be released ME3 DLC.

Well, thats my time today taken up then...

Ah of course, yeah. I'd forgotten about all of those (I guess not particularly surprising given that I didn't buy them!), you'd expect at least the Shadow Broker one to have some kind of effect since that's the one that involves Liara IIRC?
