There was/is a way into the beta without pre-purchasing the game.
My brother was in the first beta weekend and has not yet ordered the game. He loved it and the only reason he's not bought it to get in this weekends beta is because he's working.
I don't know if people who signed up for the first beta will still be in the system for future invites though.
Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean
I never got into the first game played it for a couple of days and never really understood why it was so big
They say that because i think people who tested the closed beta or are game puvblishers like totalbiscuit, they get to participate in this beta so in theory they cant say "only pre purchases can join"
End of the day, you got a better chance of winning the lottery then entering the beta weekend without a pre purchase or not being in previous beta
Not really - they've had that since they introduced NCSoft accounts (previously it was just guild wars accounts). The password reset triggers a whole bunch of things and if you hit the wrong combination they block you. In my case it was someone else hacking my account that caused my password to be needed to be reset. Combined with a house move since original account set up and they refused to unblock my account unless I provided them with paper copies of my original store receipts for all the parts of the game I'd bought. Unfortunately I only had paper receipts for the games I bought from a retailer - the ones I bought direct from NCSoft didn't have a paper receipt, but they didn't accept the combination of paper receipts and electronic receipts that I supplied them with.
Source?
Ahh ok cool.
Likewise, Any source proving they are going to randomly send beta invites to people or a link where you can sign up for the open beta without pre purchasing? Tomorrow the beta starts . They should have provided other means to get into the beta by now
beta weekend kicks off at 8pm tonight chaps, see you in the queues, lol
btw keep checking the gw2 patcher, theres already a 20ish mb patch today
I've applied for the Beta testing, but I've yet to get accepted. I've not played the 1st one though this one looks interesting and I may be seriously considering buying the game soonish.
There has been a fair bit of hype for it, or at least it appears so. (no references) The choice is go back to WoW or go for GW2. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on point of view) the decision will only need to be made after September.
(i pre ordered the game) all i had to do was register: https://register.guildwars2.com/ this enabled my pre purchase for beta and for when it's released
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe - to download the client
just put gw2.exe into a folder somewhere on your pc and launch the exe to start patching, all files will go into this folder
it's around 13gb and theres about 280k files to leech
(when you launch the game you get an error but it does say that you are ready for when the beta kicks off)

Yeah the no monthly fee is indeed a very attractive factor. One of the things that make me wonder why I never tried the 1st one. I just always seemed to be playing something else or busy with RL matters to get around to it. The £39 is so much better then the £50 on the GW2 site. When I saw £50 I was wondering if it would really be worthwhile, though £39 is not a massive deduction it does sound so much better then the £50.
Oh well, hopefully I get on the bus this time round
Omg how could I miss this (damn uni work) :'(
