    Re: Guild Wars 2

Fudge, my NCsoft account is associated with an old (and inaccessible) email account. Quick google indicates I'm without a paddle.

I think if Guildwars 2 needs a NCsoft account then I'm out

Update - I made it into Guild Wars account Still not able to log in to my NCsoft account - raised a support ticket to get my IP address unblocked.

    Re: Guild Wars 2

Well either way I think I'm sold again. NCsoft support were actually very prompt and helpful Unblocked my location and reset my security questions so I've logged in and most things are up-to-date. You can't change the name of a Guild Wars account so this still an old email address (like my Steam one), but I can put up with this.

Anyway I've dragged this thread thoroughly off topic, sorry!

    So yeah, system requirements:
Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better • Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better • 2 GB RAM • NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better) • 25 GB available HDD space • Broadband Internet connection • Keyboard and mouse

Looks like I should be able to play this on what I've got but it won't be pretty. Will save me having to upgrade all in one go. Interesting it lists the Intel HD 3000 as a compatible graphics card, I wonder how it will play on first and second generation ultrabooks with the Intel HD 3000/4000 onboard graphics only...?

I really thought that they would have pushed the required specs a fair bit higher then that. I guess it allows for a wider catchment of possible players?

As to the ultrabooks, I think it'll run but since its pretty much min specs I'm guessing it won't be pretty? Reminds me of an old guild master from WoW, he did a fair bit of travel for business thus spent a fair portion of his game time on a rather lightweight laptop/notebook. Perhaps they want it to be for almost anyone to be able to play?

The wider range of machine that can run it, the more sales they will get. Simple as that really

I agree with you on the min-specs quote, I've yet to come across I game that I was satisfied with running on min-specs.

Anyone in the beta next weekend? They're giving away so many keys right now I'm sure you could get in if you wanted to. If there are, maybe a few of us could join up?

    Thanks for Nvidia for mine!

    Re: Guild Wars 2

performance was slightly better. from bwe1 2 and 3, it has improved gradually.

What can i say, Bwe3 is very stable and sound. It is ready to be unleashed fully IMO.

not much bugs/tweaks needed imo. the game runs bug free. no noticable game breaking bugs or lag for me which is great.

About the game. The game itself is a masterpiece. from the game levels/graphics, to the storyline and gameplay.

It all comes together to create such a fantastic dynamic world you can play in and experience.

There is 10000's of things you can do, from doing dynamic quests, WvW to just collecting a whole leap of items to create new armour or weapons!

Sooo many things to do in this game.

    Whats revolutionary/refreshing?
    • Dynamic quest events, no more telling u to go from point a to point b. learn to read teh quests yourself and figure out what to do!
    • WvWvW.
    • How PvP/WvWvW allows a level 1 char to join in and be competetive from the ground up. no more leveling to max level like other mmo's to reap the benefits of pvp!
    • Game world design. see Lions Arch!
    • No monthly fee's on a game that same size as other mmo's you have to pay
    • Combat animation and system is refreshing. lots ov variations. for example your char will limp if injured during a fight!
    • Did i mention the quest system?

This game will be played by me and i imagine millions of others for years to come. They have nailed it with this game. a true breath of fresh air.

How would i sum up gw2?

    one word, unique/refreshing.

every mmo, take a bow son, this is how you to try and shake up the genra!

    Re: Guild Wars 2

I must admit, I didn't give it much of a chance, but I really didn't like the combat too much. The necromancer seemed to have melee abilities that hit from the other side of the room, the thief had some kind of combo point thing going on but I couldn't see how it worked, and the fact you could just hit one button and never do anything again (albeit you would kill really slowly) was a real off putter, especially after giving the Tera trial a go the week before (you really are spoilt with the combat in that game)!

I also didn't appear to get an easy grasp of what I actually needed to do. Yes, there were your main quest lines that you followed, but when I was running around I would get a message about a new event, but most of the time I had no idea how to participate in these events. Like the human starting area, the first event I came across was at some kind of mill, it said you have to collect water, feed plants, kill snake things, stop these bandits etc, but apart from killing the snake things I didn't know how to do the rest. And the Asura starting area, something to do with golems and chess boards, I had literally no idea what to do there, and it wasn't for the lack of looking around and reading tooltips. I like the idea of no quests per se and these area events, but I do think they could explain a bit what you do with the stuff lying around.

The game did look stunning, the classes that I played (Thief, Engineer, Necromancer) were quite interesting in their dynamics and the fact you can participate in stuff at level 1 without having to grind the way to max level all added on top of no subs does make it sounds like a true winner though and a major player in the big league giving WoW a run for it's money.
