As I'm shortly moving house (moving in with the in-laws for a few months), and they've got a capped download connection I was wondering if that's going to be a problem with playing online games. I mostly play World at War (COD5) & BF3. I would guess that BF3 would be the worst offender for downloading, but will gaming generally eat the download allotment?
What's the cap? how long do you play for? it all depends
Don't know what the cap is, but I usually play for 2-3 hours a day if I get on.
I would be suprised if BF3 uses much traffic, probs say 10-15KBps?
any VOIP fgoing along with it would probably be the thing which screwed u up.
I have just moved to a 40gb cap. I play WOW for 2-3 hour a day with Skype and the odd bit of CS:S
My mrs uses the Internet for just browsing for a fair amount each day as she is home with the kid an I maxed my limit in 28 days.

Online gaming doesn't really use much bandwidth though, go crazy
As everyone else has said, what really burns bandwidth is streaming video (and big downloads, obviously). Just in-game data packets shouldn't be an issue (although if you do hit bandwidth limits I bet your in-laws will blame it on your gaming ;) ).
40GB cap can be done in 2 games from Steam. e.g. RAGE is 21GB, Arkham City is 17GBQuote:

To play BF3, you need to keep it up to date, and with the patch that's supposed to be coming out, it wouldn't surprise me if it's bigger than 5GB.. Based on what they say they're going to change.Quote:

Simply playing games online wont hit your cap (unless it's stupidly restrictive), but it only takes a patch here, a map or 2 there, a bit of iplayer/youtube and then it'll start adding up very quickly.
