Diablo 3 release date confirmed - 15th May

D2 multiplayer over LAN is great fun - three of you sat at the same table, with low-end laptops, all shouting "Where the hell are you?!?!?!" at each other Never played online (i.e., battle.net), but LAN games are great.

Don't know if D3 will have a LAN option: I'm assuming since you need a permanent connection to battle.net to play single-player then all the multiplayer will have to be done online too. Torchlight 2 is claiming to have a LAN multiplayer option, which I'm guessing will be much more like the old D2 style of LAN game (i.e., one computer acts as "server" and everyone else on the LAN connects to that).

On the beta without going into to much detail due to the NDA there is an option similar to Brink where you can open up to other players for Co op, I cant see anything about LAN though. Whe I first signed in it also forced me to create a known as type name so friends can find me so guessing LAN is going out the window.

I love the game it is absolutely sweet and plays like a dream, been waiting for so long for a new Diablo game. But......

And theres always a but!

This always on connection, I have been getting kicked out to the title screen and unable to log back in roughly between every 10 and 20 minutes play. I know it is a beta and the net code may not be fully done yet or not enough servers as of yet. Thing is though if the finished product is the same way its going to be unplayable for me.

My net connection is extremely flaky at the best of times and drops out unexpectedly regardless of what the weather is like. So unfortunately for me I am going to have to hold off until the BT fibre gets installed round my way. Apparently its going live 31st March and there have been a lot of Openreach vans about installing green boxes. I am wanting it through Sky so wondering how long it will be before they offer it. Hoping it will be within a week or two of it going live.

It is a pain this "always connected" route they are going down, and was wondering what it will be like/if there will be any issues owning two copies of the game and both connecting from home to battle net servers for co-op with the always connected aspect.

A bit OT but I was chatting with an openreach engineer and he said that none of the LLU customers have the demand to start selling Fibre to customers but he said if anyone would start it would be Sky.

You may be stuck with BT if you want the Fibre package atm.

I hope at some point there is a trial for this, i've watched vids etc om it and i just don't think it looks good. I'd really like to try it incase it plays better than it looks to me.

NDA? you got more access to d3 than the rest of the beta testers?

Getting a bit annoyed that im still waiting for a d3 key, want to try it personally before release but after seeing some videos its filling me with a bit more hope . I want something todo in the mean time though!

I've just spent over £1k on upgrading my computer mainly for this game. So I am really hoping it's good. Also hoping my laptop will run it on med-low ok. If not and I do get addicted to it then I'll possibly end up getting a new laptop as well.
