    BF3 Stress worth it? Yes!

My biggest wish for BF3 is for it to be freed from Origin.. hell EA too.

Origin is awful. From the crashes, buggy updates, terrible back end servers right through to privacy issues it just has no reason for existing.

Battlelog however... is excellent. Its everything Origin should of been in a web browser. Its an awesome way to arrange meet ups with friends, add servers, chat and check stats. I personally have never had the issues people complain about were they have trouble joining servers. Battlelog apart from a few minor issues has been great for me.

Once in BF3 its certainly a great game. Wonderful visuals/sound and squad play. Huge variety of vehicles and guns. Lots of fun

There are some bugs, exploits etc that hopefully will be fixed in the next patch. Otherwise its superbly optimized and very realiable. In 272hours I've still never crashed in game!

If you do decide to get it. Join the Scan.co.uk servers

    Re: BF3 Stress worth it?

Think the best advice has already been given really, if you dont have an Origin account go and get one and then install it, redeem code through origin and let it download the game for you. Youll need also to install the plugins from battlelog but Im not sure if you have to wait for the game to be installed before you can do that.

Personally I bought the digital version no discs to lose but it wouldnt matter with EA anyway as you get access to the digital version once youve entered your key anyway.

Is steam better yeah i guess so but more so because most of us are used to it.

I never start BF3 through Origin I have a browser fav thats either always open in a tab anyway or on my favourites bar under the address bar, I go directly to battlelog choose my server and the rest is done for me if origin isnt open it takes a little longer but I can live with that.

I love BF3 and while there are a few bugs here and there and while I have had the odd crash it is so few and far between anything could of caused it though I know at first it was my realtek on board sound card that has since been replaced. There is a fix for it though for those that dont want to buy a sound card.

This. although I know a lot of people (myself included) that would definitely stress the "Once in" bit.....still it sometimes takes me 6-7 attempts to join a server, cycling through 4 different error messages until it finally decides to connect.

Origin and battlelog I despise and detest....and still cannot forgive them for removing the "join as a party" option from battlelog for a team-based game!

I haven't had any crashes at all since I went back to a single GPU. I used to get the buzzing realtek crashes but not even those now. What was your fix ?
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

The only thing missing from Battlelog, IMO, is the ability to change your loadouts. If they added that then it'd be pretty much perfect.

And the ability to have specific load outs depending on the map would be good too. EG. Tanks need canister shell for Seine Crossing but Guided Shell for Caspian Borders, which is something I often forget to change.

I agree with both of those points.

As for Origin's stability issues, I have found that when ever Origin is not working correctly the best remedy is to shut it down and restart it, this has always fixed it for me. Origin has never crashed while I'm playing, any issues I had were due to updates not being correctly installed, which stops the game from starting in the first place and as I said restarting the application completes the install process and allows me to start the session.

    Re: BF3 Stress worth it?

What annoys me, and it did the first time I installed it, is the amount of time it takes to install. Something like 2.5-3 hours to intall a game ?.

In older games, before I bought one, I would go and find all the patches issued and save them to my HDD ready to use once I bought the game.
Simple, install game, install any patches, and run it, all over in about 20 minutes.
When I re-installed Windows recently it took around 3 hours to re-install BF3, and I was seriously thinking was it really worth the bother. I mean, re-installing Windows, updating, drivers, some software so it is all ready to run, takes less time than installing BF3.

To remind myself how simple things used to be, I installed UT99 GOTY 2 discs, no CD key, applied some patches and was having a bit of fun against bots inside of about 15 minutes.

Simple things like trying out different video settings as so annoying. I mean I have to wait for single player to get going off the internet. With BF2/2142 etc I can quickly load up the game and tweak away with the in game settings, and not have to wait for it to connect to the internet.
I thought that BF3 would be good (all the hype etc.) and I like the BF series, but not any more, and I haven't bought the Karkland patch, nor will I buy the DLC whenever that turns up, my interest in the game is not worth spending more money on it.

To top it all, there is no real single player mode.......I mean where I can have some fun playing against bots. At least doing that I could have got a feel for the game before venturing into MP online.
If my internet goes down......someone puts a JCB bucket through a cable..........then I can't play the game, especially as there are no 'bots' built in.
    No internet = no game.
Looks like EA/DICE will not be relieving me of any more money.

    Re: BF3 Stress worth it?

I found it stressful when I first bought the game - was running Windows XP - and then realised it needs Vista or Win 7.

    Major pain.

I was also running my current processor (AMD Athlon X2 5600+) with a crazy Radeon 3850. I had to run it at the lowest res, and it still didn't run that nice.

Then I bought a 5770 and realised that my motherboard didn't support it.

    Cry - more pain.

Now I finally have a motherboard that can run the 5770, still have to run with low detail all around, but at least at native res (1680x1050).

Took a year to install, but I think generally it's worth the hassle - I don't see all the fuss about 'oh it installs Origin' etc. You hardly notice it to be fair - though its an arse that you have to be online to play single player#!!!!!

Hoping that an upgrade Phenom II X4 will make it more playable.... But can't complain too much right now

    Re: BF3 Stress worth it?

    I'd definitely say so.

I've given it the title of "Best FPS of all time". Yes Origin is ****ty and yes the browser client is clunky and annoying, but no other FPS offers that immersion, those visuals and fantastic game play.

With every update they are ironing out the kinks. And with the last 1GB+ update i've noticed that the vast majority of bugs are gone.. Hell i havent had a 'Bad luck glitch' since

I don't find it a problem. As long as you make sure it's up to date, the game runs and plays fine.
