    Sol Survivor: Tactics

Right , listen up gun-emplacement specialists.

I'm doing ok but I'm struggling on a few of the gun types.

I've discovered that a Pill box used with a level up/upgrade thingy is the bomb... it kicks ass.

BUT>........ I'm struggling to nail the machine gun. It seems ace on the first emplacement but the Pillbox then seems uber at level 2. Is that right? Am I missing something. (I ask because the Pill box costs 15, the machine gun costs 20)

The Shotgun is uber but when upgraded it seems.... less worthy of the effort.

Missiles seems great in along row of emplacements but the upgrade also seems less effetive.

And why do the flying "shuttlecock" enemies sometime sattract Pillbox attention.. and other times not?

    Any help.. will be great

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

Cannot really help much but I'd say have a look at this for some insanity on sol survivor
    TBR Plays Sol Survivor -- 2nd Co-op Survival http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWcy9dBBzD8
They manage to last nearly an hour and the game just seems to be throwing upgraded boss waves at them by the end.

EDIT: If I'm understanding it correctly, mg's have a slightly longer range and higher damage than pillboxes, however they also have a minimum range, But pillboxes have the advantage that they can target multiple enemies at once, not just one like the mg's
Which makes mg's better for fewer tougher enemies but pill boxes better against hordes

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

it says that, I agree, but it's not quite like that.

The Pillbox can target multiples.. true... but the sheer volume of bullets it can pour into one target is immense. When upgrade from levl 1 to 2 (83 cost) it's superb.. but going the next stage (250 cost on top) it's phenomenal.

But the Machine gun doesn't quite do it.....

I'm trying to keep the aliens alight too, with spaced out flame throwers, and I did try upgrading the flame thrower but it didn't seem as good as simply having 3 or 4 basic ones.. unlike the pillbox which imporved exponentially.

It's genius fun, but I cabn't find the perfect balance. The green goo guns SHOULD slow the enemies so the guns get more chance at them.. but it's rubbish!

The character with lasers... well.. the lasers are pants!

Suprised no one else is playing it. It rocks!

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

From what I understand of it there's multiple types of enemies, some types are more resistant to certain types of damage eg robotic types are more resistant to fire than organic types, you've also got shields on top of that.
Same goes for the commander special attacks.

just had a look at gamefaqs http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/991723-so...vor/faqs/59979 looks like there's No point in MG turrets if you have access to pillboxes

I think flying mob are immune to goo you need turbulence turrets for them.

I'm not a massive fan of tower defense games butt this one does have a heck of a lot of complexity to it.

I think because the pillbox can only target ground creeps and these are sometimes flying and sometimes ground. Anti-air flak will target them while they are flying but not while they are ground. Some guns, like Canon are able to target both ground and flying creeps.

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

I've not tried the green gloop upgraded, i'm guessing as it can be upgraded they have to limit the effect at the standard level. TBH i've thought most of the upgrades are not really up to the cost increase. You can usually get another 3 or 4 turrets for 1 upgrade.
I tend to pick out bends in teh roads or areas when turrets can attack both roads Aliens will come down and spam the area. Those turrets take priority for upgrades but all the time i have a good space to fit more turrets in i go for that rather than an upgrade.

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

Andy. the reason I found out how good the turret upgrade was on the Pillbox was to achieve one of the challengs on the first world... to win outright with only one turret... for the entire challenge.

So I tried lots of them.. and the Pillbox after it's second upgrade is ... simply astonishing!

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

I downloaded the demo to try it out, nice it's a bit fast paced and relentless, which is ok but for something with this level of complexity I'd prefer a bit more of a gap between waves.

the full game eased me into it very well... good tutorial and I soon picked it up.

each challenge has different hardness levels and extra challengesd attached.. so you can make it a tad easier.

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

    I need some help please!!

I have been trying to get Gold medals on some challenges.. and one in particular I have spent over a dozen attempts getting a perfect score in Intense mode....

but... I don't get the desired score... not quite. And having killed every creep and having not let any in so had a perfect result.. tthe score is a tiny tiny amount below what I need for gold... and I dunno what to do to make it higher.

How does the scoring work...? How do I get more points from a finite amount of creeps and with an unblemished result on Survivors?

What am I missing? Do I need to use a diff leader for different turrets to get better points?

The result page where the points are awarded has a Boost (or similar) box... what is it?

    Re: Sol Survivor: Tactics

over a fortnight has passed and I've nailed the bugger!

On Tyderian Outpost (first Planet tab) on End of the Line (the last challenge) I've finally cracked it on Intense. With Gus... and is Pillboxes!

It has taken me HOURS... I've moved to the next planet and come back to this one to nail it.... MAN it was hard.

Two landing site for the aliens... they go opposite ways.. then cross... and then go opposite ways.. and finally get to my base and kill my Surviviors!

    Well... not tonight they don't

Looking at Steam.. I've played this game for 32 hours!

Looks cool, reminds me of the days back on WC3 when people made their own games with editing tool.
