    Elder Scrolls Online

So... it has been announced that there will be a new MMO coming soonish (no idea when) Link to Home Page: Elder Scrolls Online

    Very few details available though.

I for one am rather excited about this, I just hope it will live up to the franchise without breaking it.

    Re: Elder Scrolls Online

I think the experience of Star Wars: TOR has left me sceptical of pretty much every potential great future gaming title. I should be really excited about this but I can't help but feel that it will be a massive let down featuring 'play it safe' gameplay and uninspired/rehashed character and environment designs. A Elder Scrolls MMO might sound great on paper but unless they introduce innovative gameplay mechanics (eg Guild Wars 2) I can't help but feel that it will only turn out to be yet another glorified WoW clone. There's only one way of making an MMO so far and WoW has it done to perfection/death so I hope they come up with a genuinely new and good game as opposed to a Elder Scrolls spin on a familiar template.

    Re: Elder Scrolls Online

So far, it appears to be a WoW clone, on the SW:ToR engine. But they're slapping the TES name on it.

    Re: Elder Scrolls Online

Hmm, when pointed out like that it really does not sound that great in reality.

It was just such a nice thought that it could possibly be a good game. I guess there is still a slim chance that it may turn out to be so. Slim.

    Re: Elder Scrolls Online

If they completely reinvented the genre (like all great games do) ie make it play like Elder Scrolls and have the same detail, freedom, depth as well as new fun ways to play in multiplayer then I'd be very interested.

Is it possible to make an mmo play like the Elder Scrolls with everything that made me excited about the thought of this coming out. The more I've been thinking about it, the more I really hope they manage to do so. But I'm not holding my breath.

Hope it's not going to be one of those 'kill 100 baddies in the cave and return to me' kind of games..

It's Star Wars The Old Republic, with an elves-and-dragons skin. What do you *think* it's going to be?
