Re: Diablo 3 - It's here! (Unboxing pics)

Right.. simply disabling 'Virtu' (which I guess therefore means that the 6850 doesnt kick in, so i'm running of integrated Intel graphics) at 1920x1080 but all options set to low gives me 13 fps, but it's not that steady. Time to switch my DVI cable to 6850 only

Edit: OK, so into my BIOS / EFI, i have changed from i-mode to D-mode (so the cable is physically now connected to my Radeon DVI, not my motherboard DVI), but still technically in Virtu mode, and i now get 50 fps (with all options turned up to max inc AA).
The odd thing about that, is that i have set max fps within the game (foreground and background) each above 50 fps.

    Hmm.

Well it does at least make a huge benefit to the game, so i guess at present I just wait for Lucid Logic to come up with a new Virtu fix.

Edit 2: Ok, after a re-start am now getting 100 fps+, with all options to max.

interesting, looks like it was virtu that was the main issue for your fps, it was boosting it but not by much.
as much as I like the idea of virtu, as well as hybrid crossfire and hybrid sli before it, I don't think it's that much of a useful thing.
back in the 8xxx and hd2xxx time it was because the high end cards still had high idle power draw, but now most high end cards are really quite efficient.
the 6850 only uses around 15w at idle, granted the real low end cards are in the 5-10w idle range, but you're still looking at half the idle current of the old 4770 and a lot more gpu power

Re: Diablo 3 - It's here! (Unboxing pics)

There were 2 reasons originally for Virtu appealing to me, the power draw (considering 90% or more of the time my GPU is not active), plus being tempted by the idea of using the sandy bridge GPU for quick transcoding... however in practice I have not used the transcoding once in 9 months, and as you say, my Radeon is quite efficient anyway.
I like the engineering principles behind Virtu, but it does seem to be very dependant upon constant driver updates (which is a pain when you have to update the AMD driver then the virtu driver in the correct sequence)

Re: Diablo 3 - It's here! (Unboxing pics)

How's every one getting on with the game? Those that are playing it and not just moaning about it

I know it's got some issues still and the launch was shaky but I have to say I'm really enjoying the game I've played around 35 hours so far, and I think I must be one of the lucky ones, apart from the launch night logging on problems I've not experienced anything major. Absolutely no lag or FPS issues, runs very smooth indeed on max settings. Only gripe is with the Auction House, seems very flaky at the moment, working one minute and not the next. I see they have just out the release of the RMAH back a week as well, guess it needs more work.

I've only tried one class so far, a Barbarian, this was always going to be my main. I'm up to lvl 51 now and have just finished the Nightmare difficulty and started on Hell. There's a massive jump in difficulty between the levels, so it pays to get some new gear after each act.

So, what's everyone been playing and how far have you got, any nice drops?

Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean

I'm enjoying my first character, a monk, up to level 10 at the moment. I have an NPC chap following me, and we just killed the skeleton king
Despite all my grumps, I -do- enjoy playing the game and find myself keen to see what is just around the next corner

Pretty much the same here except i roll as a Wizard.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Completed first run through with Wizard (level 32) now going through on nightmare mode. Really enjoying game now that the initial tech problems at launch are gone.

Re: Diablo 3 - It's here! (Unboxing pics)

Oh my god... is all i can say from ERROR 33.... im feeling same as you Kalniel.

I was just about to post how despite the crap that is this skill system (i just dont get this satisfaction from leveling without putting skill points in) and the fact skills and runes dont even flipping describe the actual damage! Its hard to tell if you want 3 arcane bolts or 1 with high damage, that high damage could increase it by only 50% and the 3x bolts would be 300%.... its impossible to tell , stupid stupid thing making it 'dumbed' down, i understand skill points (barely) but atleast let me have the option to be told what actual effect it has.

Now aside from that and the graphics being similar to TQ which is 8 years old... its a brilliant game, its fluid (when its not jumping on mine, no idea why but random fps drops yet its on an SSD and pings were 47ms FINALLY!!!) i like the combat and the storey/lore is certainly a huge improvement and it seems thats what they have actually been working on all these years, its nice. I cant put it down (im like this with any good RPG ), and now im trying to login and brilliant the servers are down.

NOW THIS IS WHY I HATE THIS FLIPPING DRM, if the server isnt lagging then its either 4am for me or the server is down! They should have simply made the singleplayer mode have no AH and perhaps just make it so it authenticates and then lets you play. I hate this, sunday with no f1 on im bored to death with free time i set aside for d3.

Blizzard, going down in my books every since the black soul of Activision merged into it!

Im still confused why the server needs to go down 5 days after launch .

edit: even better, i thought the game system was you can move to any server... i switched to asia and it was full and then Americas which i got in, only to find i had no character... brilliant.

Well actually I think we've had less downtime than the US servers - earlier in the week they had a lot of downtime.

Torchlight 2 should have launched just before D3, then they'd be able to pick up all the frustrated players!

well i know grim dawn benefited from endings its kickstarter just after d3 , they ended up raising like $537k!

Hmm i seem to think we have had it worse, maybe on launch day (i didnt have my copy then!) the US had it worse but that was understandable... to be almost a week after launch there shouldnt be any issues like this, its even worse that its on a flipping sunday afternoon!.
