    Good PC Headset?

Well my second Roccat Kulo 7.1 USB headset has died today so I'm now going to have to look for something new. I don't really know much about headsets (I've only ever had the 2... or should I say 3!?). The first headset I got was by Sennheiser, it was that long ago that I can't even remember what model it was but it lasted around 10 years. When my Sennheiser finally gave up I got the Roccat Kulo 7.1 USB headset and its been nothing but headaches, both of the headsets have developed the exact same problem (no sound in the right ear) so this time Amazon have offered to just refund me my money so I can get a different headset.

Soooooooo..... what do you guys think I should take a look at? I've been looking at Tritton, Razer, Logitech, TurtleBeach and a few other manufacturers (not Roccat) but the choice is overwhelming! What do you guys own and how would you rate it? I don't mind paying the £££'s if the headset is worth it so price isn't really a factor. Also will I need to get sound cardrd because at the moment I just use the built-isound cardrd on my ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro Motherboard??

Hope you guys can help me

Out of these which would you guys say are better:

    SteelSeries 7H Fnatic - SteelSeries D3 Headset

Tritton AX Pro - Tritton AX 720

    Astro A40

    Razer Tiamat

    Thanks,

I'm in a similar position. My headset us wraparound and hurts my ears after about half an hour of wearing, and I'd quite like 3d sound again (I remember I used to have a A3D compatible soundcard that gave excellent positional sound back in the day). Currently I'm just running of the onboard sound so I guess I have one of two options:

1 - Get a soundcard that does decent sound and a headset with normal plugs.
2 - Get a USB headset that has 3d sound built in.

Sound about right? And any recommendations as Rookie asks. I don't want to blow £80 on something that turns out to be no better than a £40 set.

    Re: Good PC Headset?

Well I ended up getting a Creative SB Fatal1ty Recon 3D Soundcard and Mrs Rookie bought me a pair of Astro A40's with all the extras (Case, Stand, MixAmp, TOSlink cable and custom tags) for my birthday. I haven't been able to give them a real test yet because Scan have my OC Bundle back for repair//replacement but even just for stereo-sound they seem very nice and the design, sound and build quality is far superior to any headset I've owned in the past but and it's a big BUT they are bloody expensive! Coming in at over double what I've paid for a headset in the past and even more if you include the cost of the new Soundcard to get Dolby Digital Live for the MixAmp.

I'm going to review some of my new kit once I get my PC back so will let you know how I get on with them

    Re: Good PC Headset?

From what I heard Sennheiser is quality.

Have a loot at the PC 350 and PC 360.

If you want a cheaper option try Platronics 367 for 20 odd quid. I previously had the Steelseries 5H V2 about 1-2 years ago and paid 60 for them. I have to admit the 20 quid I paid for Platronics 367 proved to better.

    Re: Good PC Headset?

After browsing some reviews I eventually went for the Corsair Vengeance 1500. Well reviewed and not too expensive considering I won't need a new soundcard.

    Re: Good PC Headset?

In the CustomPC magazine they have 'elite' lists, which is their choice of the best hardware available.
Their headset of choice is the Asus Vulcan ANC, priced at £72 according to them.
I have no experience with this particular headset, however I am sure it is excellent as they do not usually put things on the list without good reason.

If your looking for a seriously decent headset with a nice plug-in standard mic thats sturdy and has volume and game control and is sturdy, FOR CHEAP!! get a Tritton mate.

    Re: Good PC Headset?

I have a Sennheiser PC 350, I've had a few headsets in the past like the G35, Steelseries Siberia and the Creative Fata1ity Mk2 to name a few and the comfort and sound immersion of the PC350 is the best, as well as this the mic is noise cancelling and I have a accurate representation of my voice on voice comms in games or chat programs. They feel well made and unlikely to break, however they take some time to ''wear in (sounds weird but they do) so the sound sounds better. However I also have a decent soundcard Asus Xonar D2 (amazing hardware, poor software) so this probably helps the sound a lot. Hoped I helped!
