    S!?

Why does everyone use S! as a greeting in IL2?

I think I know what it means and if it does mean what I think it means then surely this raises an even bigger WHY?!?!?

i always assumed it was just an abbreviation of - I salute you, Sir!

It's generally used when you've shot someone down, they've shot you down (I've more experience of this situation that the former ), or you see someone in the lobby you respect and like!

    We got younger readers?

btw, S!, comes from the older generation of First world war flight sims, which copied the very real and Gentlemanly behaviour of enemy pilots saluting each other after battle.

Daft maybe, but at least you get the feeling the virtual pilot is playing for the right reasons and appreciating his opponents efforts, rather than just chalking up another frag and sneering from under his foreign scraggy dog-end.

Certainly some young enough not to remember Captain Beaky and his Magic Band! Mind you, probably best forgotten

I knew we'd get to the roots of S! eventually. Indeed I seem to remember VEF being very much this not so long ago.

I seem to be the only person in my friends group that knows of Captain Beaky and his Magic Band, they all thought I was off my tits when I started going on about Timmid Toad Artful Owl and Batty Bat...
