I've not heard of counter strike the RTS, have you got more details?
My favourite RTS is Supreme Commander (1)/forged alliance. Just such a sorted game and the scale is really amazing.
Dawn of War 2 is the complete opposite in that it's a close in, intense experience.. but it's great fun.
StarCraft 2 is my currently being played RTS - very old school unlike the two above. But old school with a lot of polish.
A nice, more modern day RTS is world in conflict. It's a nice change to normal futuristic/historic games.
p.s. Have you heard of a game on steam called sanctum. It is a strategic/tower defence/fps. It is a nice twist on a few genres. Check it out![]()
My favourite RTS of all time is probably Command and Conquer Red Alert 2. Never have I been more addicted to a game.
Supreme Commander is up there too as just an amazing experience.
Another vote for Supreme Commander. Sanctum is a load of fun too as is Sins of a Solar Empire.
another for sup com.
I've just re-installed Forged alliance this weekend.
By far the best large scale RTS ever!
Company of heroes for a smaller scale
Total Annihilation - Cant beleive no ones mentioned this!?!?!
C&C Red Alert 2 was awesome too.
I havent really played any recent ones that ive been to bothered about.
Dune 2, the original and best.
Supreme Commander
Played loads over the years, I think AoE II will always have a special place in gaming history for me. I remember playing it against old friends back at school over the school network and it was just awesome!!
Out of everything ive played i think WC III would be my "Best RTS" game, purely for the online aspect and customisation that was available through the World Editor tool.

Command & Conquer Generals with the Zero Hour Expansion has to be my all time favourite, with C&C Red Alert 2 being 2nd. Cannot wait for Generals 2 coming out next year![]()
Total Annihilation has to be my favourite. I spent a lot of time playing Dune 2000 as well, but I think that had something to do with my love of the books. Many days were lost to Star Trek Armada too.
The Supreme Commander series was excellent but I tired of it because of the hassles I had with registering it and the whole DRM thing. Command and Conquer went the same way, and I haven't bought much since. There's enough to keep an ardent RTS fan happy for years.
I remember never having enough PC 'power' to properly enjoy these games. When the fight got interesting, with 100s of little whatevers duelling away, my computer would start getting very hot and the screen would refresh just a few times a second. Still, I put up with it. If you haven't played one of these ancient games for a while, it's worth digging out the disks. The gameplay hasn't changed much, just the graphics and numbers of units. They fly on modern hardware.
The X-Series of space games aren't really RTS but they are my favourite time-wasters of all.
