Tbh it is quite well worth investing in Premium if you plan to get all the upcoming expansions which would be like £60 altogether!

What, you mean you didn't just know there was going to a BF4 next year

I don't know what all the premium fuss is about. Premium is just another pre-order choice. Save a few trinkets of dubious worth, you can still buy the maps separately when they come out, if you want. Alternatively, commit to the DLC now, get it early and possibly save a bit of money. If you already bought Karkand, you won't save quite so much of course.

The shortcut packs are far more controversial in my opinion, as they remove a competitive features from the gameplay.

There was an error a while back where you could order through an indian proxy and get it for £17. I did that. Worth £17 but not more.

    Re: BF3 Prenium

The only reason they have done this is to compete with Call of Duty's Elite scheme - at least you get 5 content packs, and not a few little ****ty map packs, each containing rehashed versions of old maps. There is absolutely no originality in the Call of Duty series anymore =[ - they don't make 'em like CoD2PC that's for sure.
