    Good Flight games

I recently got a Saitek X52, standard silver model not the black pro one.

Although it works really well with FSX i'm looking for some other flight games to give a try.

I already tried X-Plane and really did not like it and I also tried Microsoft Flight but that got boring fast.

I guess I am looking for some really good turn and burn combat style games

    Any suggestions?

    Re: Good Flight games

If you're after actual combat sims, theyy are very few and far between these days. it's a genre that's sadly gone out of fashion.

Only thing I can think of off hand is HAWX but that's very arcady and lacks the complexity of a real combat flight sim.

Probably best to grab a couple of the classics, IL-2, Falcon 4, Crimson Skies (although it's a bit arcady, but not much)
Also Enemy Engaged: RAH-66 Comanche Versus Ka-52 Hokum which was the last in the comanche series if I remember correctly

    Re: Good Flight games

I have both of the HAWX games, HAWX 1 works quite well with this joystick and lets you flip around the sky pretty good. HAWX 2 on the other hand I really don't know what they did to that game but it's not even a shadow of the first, joystick support is terrible to the point that I play it with a gamepad instead.

Falcon 4 i always found a bit too techy for me but that was before I spend 100+ hours in FSX so maybe I should try that one again.

I'll have a look at the others thought I tend to shy away from heli games as i can't seem to fly in a straight line in a heli lol

    Thanks guys

    Re: Good Flight games

A friend of mine is obsessed with a game called Aces High. It's an online WW2 fighter plane flight sim. I haven't played it so I can't provide too many details other than it looked pretty fun when I've watched people play it. There's a free two week trial that, if memory serves, you don't need to provide payment information for.

Do you mind if i ask what you didn't like about X-Plane, and which version you tried?

I develop aircraft and scenery for it, so just curious.

    Re: Good Flight games

    I tried X-Plane 10

I just could not get on with it I felt the interface was a bit clunky for lack of a better term.

Maybe I am just used to FSX but with it I can start it plot a flight plan, pick a plane and take off relatively quickly.

and even with 50+ gig of scenery files installed I did not feel like it looked any nicer than FSX which is considerably smaller at 17 Gig

    Re: Good Flight games

No probs, i agree with all you say, for what it's worth.

I think you get used to the interface and finding scenery, only after you've spent a few hours flying it and getting used to it.

I do have rise of flight and it does seem like a good sim.

Unfortunately my dogfighting skills are sadly lacking and I find myself wishing for the occasional heat seeker

    Re: Good Flight games

If you want something challenging try TakeOn Helicopters or AC-10 Warthog, both are realistic and fun if you are willing to put the time into learning it!

    Re: Good Flight games

Take on helicopters is good, a10 and black shark require dedication to do properly.

Rise f flight is a good one, il2 cliffs of Dover is a new ww2 game, failing that il2 1946 is still very popular
