Simcity: Is anyone else looking forward to it?

I thought it'd never happen considering how long it's been since SC4:Rush Hour but a new Simcity is on it's way (two in fact) and I'm very much looking forward to it. Is anyone else a fan and if so what are you hoping to see and not see in the new game?

Personally, I'm most looking forward to playing around with the new engine, GlassBox and seeing just how realistic it's simulations are and how realistic the behaviour of the people in game is.

Re: Simcity: Is anyone else looking forward to it?

Absolutely yes. Sim City is one of my favourite games - Loved Sim City 2000, 4 and the Android version i've been playing on my tablet recently.

The new one looks fantastic built around the new engine, I just hope it isn't cocked up by EA.

    Good call!

Yeah I think this will have to go on my shopping list at some point, still quite a way off though! I wonder how they'll fair on the complexity/fun balance, it's a fine line when creating such a detailed game.

At those recession beating prices, why do they think they can get away with daylight robbery??? No wonder piracy is still rampant

This is why I won't be ordering it from Origin/never buy games for the xbox through the dashboard. I will refuse to pay anything that begins with a "4" or any number above unless it's immediately followed by a decimal point.

Re: Simcity: Is anyone else looking forward to it?

I am just worried about how much of a tie in it will be with origin. If I have to download, sign up, log in, buy, download and then forever have Origin sneaking around in the background I will not buy it.

I enjoyed the Simcity series and I have been keeping my eye on this one but not at those prices.

Re: Simcity: Is anyone else looking forward to it?

Well with this new one requiring you to be online 100% of the time, sorry but that's just ruled it out for me.
I've been playing old sim city on my net book on the train on my way into work.
It's great for that, something you can dip into and out of at any time, couldn't do that if you have to be online.
At least with things like steam if my internet goes down at least I can still play single player games in offline mode, how hard is that a concept for publishers to understand?

Blizzard is doing the same for years. The first Starcraft is still for £10 in their store, not to mention the second for £33 :O

on the other hand EA usually drops the prices soon after release anyways

Re: Simcity: Is anyone else looking forward to it?

Always liked Sim City since I first played it on the SNES so many many years ago. Not to sure on the whole online aspect and I'm going to take a lot of convincing. Certainly not paying 60 bloody quid for it either. Really hope EA doesn't send Simcity down the same route as C&C and just milk it for every penny at the expense of the franchise.

The whole point of sim city is its pick up and play ability. For me it will always be/was a back up to my main multiplayer FPS etc. Its a game to take with me when I visit family, go abroad or am stuck away from home. The minute I am forced to connect to the internet to play it is the minute I look elsewhere.

Am I looking forward to it? I'm not holding my breath. But, if a couple of factors are satisfied. I may well buy it when it arrives.

    Those factors?

    1) Reasonable price.
    2) No mandated connection to Steam, or some equivalent
    3) No overly-intrusive DRM.

    1) is a somewhat fluid target, but 2) and 3) are non-negotiable for me.

    So, I'm not overly hopeful.

I'm pretty sure it's through origin so that fails on number 2
