    Tribes Ascend worth a pop?

I've been a fan of the Trbies series, with Tribes 2 being my fondest memories and many a hours cloaking and electrocuting juggernauts from behind.

Just wondering if any of the community has played this game and if it worth go? Also with the FREE TO play system, does it impact and skew in favour of those who paid for their upgrades? Making unfair basically? Or is it well balanced?

Also is there teamwork in games and is it well thought out?

Re: Tribes Ascend worth a pop?

I've played it quite a bit.

Is it pay-to-win? No, it isn't. I would classify more as pay-to-accelerate. You can purchase new weapons, but to upgrade them you need XP. And to get XP you need to play. Now you can also purchase booster packs that will double the amount of XP you earn over a set period of days.

The skill level is a huge problem. It is a hard game to pick up, and it's a game that will punish you if you don't play it constantly to keep your aim sharp - everything is projectile based, not hit scan meaning you have to lead your targets.

I haven't played it in a while, because every other game I played was stacked. And not to mention they keep changing the core of the game. Just recently they introduced 72 new weapons removing the standard weapons and replacing them with sligtly different variants of each.

It defintely has potential, but they urgently need to look at bridging the skill game and overall balance.

seems like it's a bit similar to Star Trek online in the model of payment. Wherby you can still buy the best stuff but you can still earn it as well.

I might just give it a try, I miss Tribes 2 ever since they shut down the servers, I've had fun with that GAME/

Another thing, is sniping realistic, as in is it a one shot kill? In Tribes 2 it certainly wasn't, took 3-4 shoots before they die, despite headshots

I love Tribes, I dont play it constantly, I play it every few days, i feel it keeps the game feeling fresh.

One thing I will say, is it IS a grind to level up, its not like any of the CoD games where you play for an hour and you have unlocked half of what is available. From speaking to a people who have played it longer, getting 200 points (not exp) in a single game is good.

Sniping is incredibly hard. And head shots are extremely difficult to do. I've managed 1 head shot in all my hours of play.

That being said a sniper who is a good sniper will dominate your team. It's pixel perfect accuracy, and as such will shut-down any potential incoming cappers.

But is it one shot kill if you get the head or you need more if you hit the torso for e.g?

Re: Tribes Ascend worth a pop?

Seeing as headshots are incredibly hard to pull off, it's never one-shot kill. Everyone aims for the torso, and that takes at least 3-4 shots if at full health.

Tried it briefly but didn't really get on with it. Not sure why exactly. Loved Tribes 1 and 2. Not too keen on the graphics style and I think they've overegged the skiing.

    Tribes 2 still lives

As for tribes ascend its quite fun tbh, i find they have basically destroyed the vehicle combat and versatility of the roles, but the game itself is still fun.

the tribesnext is ok, looked at the server numbers, obviously not s good as those days with more than 50 per server, that was fun

I'd never even heard of the Tribes games previously but a pal mentioned this game and had a ball with it so far.

You can tell a few of the folk have played the other versions and know exactly what they are doing but even a noob like me can do decent in some rounds.

Re: Tribes Ascend worth a pop?

I played tribes and tribes 2 and this new one is as close to the original tribes as it gets. Is a lot of fun and much better than I thought it would be. I did pay in the end as I was playing it constantly.. However things have slowed down recently but I still dip in and out. Is all about ctf though I haven't bothered with the other game types.

Re: Tribes Ascend worth a pop?

    I tried tribes ascend....and I played tribes 2.

TA I found to be so reminiscent of T2 that I just could not play it. It was like going back 10 years in gameplay.

Also, the F2P (or Pay2Win) model it uses (like Blacklight Retribution) is one of the biggest put-offs I have ever had from a game......I understand their need to make money but the pricing models used currently suck.
