Defense Grid 2 is on Kickstarter

I thought Defense Grid was a fantastic game... and if you're interested in seeing a sequel to it, Kickstarter is where you need to be:

They're looking for $250,000 by 14th August to make a DG expansion pack, and are at $55,000 right now.

For a full sequel, $1m might be a bit optimistic but I hope they make it.

I wouldn't say that it's mind-blowingly original (in the way that perhaps Plants vs Zombies was), but it's incredibly well made.

Nice 3D graphics, an adequate storyline, and tremendously well balanced with a huge range of different game modes and scoring, providing a near-endless amount of playtime if you really want to complete it. Some levels you design the path to some extent, blocking their way, others you just place towers along the sides.

It's a very pleasant title, and it's on sale on Steam right now for £1.74 (about the 4th or 5th time it's been available at that price IIRC) which is a real bargain. There's a lot of DLC available, and it's very cheap when on sale, but it's far from essential. I bought it all more to support the dev than because I wanted it... and tbh I'm not sure I've even played it, still got loads to do on the main game and every time I get near to completing it I format, forget to back up the right folders, and lose my savegame again

It would be a crime not to get the first game for that price.

As mentioned it's not terribly original, but it is very polished and has a pretty nice atmosphere. It's grown somewhat over the years as Valve really like it and it started to tie in with Portal a bit more, especially with the hidden AR games leading up to portal 2's release.

Very surprised to see a kickstarter though, would have thought they could fund it themselves/get some backing from Valve.

This is the company that's making DoTA 2 for Valve...Why on earth do they need crowd-funding?

I'm delighted this is a thing, though. I'm a huge lover of tower defense and Defense Grid was the last great "laid back" TD game, before games like Orcs Must Die, Sanctum and Dungeon Defenders came in and started making people busy during waves.

I kind of wish this was a Valve project actually. I'd like to see the same jump from DG1 to DG2 as we did from Portal 1 to Portal 2, with added narrative, story and characters etc.

Im loving this game (the original), nearly finished the main missions on story mode, still loads of other modes and stories to do though!

Pretty sure steam now syncs up your save game so you shouldnt ever lose your place again.
