Console games on the PC - good or bad?

I've recently played both Prototype 2 and Darkstriders 2 - both obviously console games, ported to the PC. I've got an Xbox console to go with my PC; if I waned some pad-mashing (both of these games are much more playable on a gamepad) I'd power it up. I prefer gaming on the PC to be on PC-specific titles, not on games that make PC mimc another 'idiot box'. Of course, you can change the game's screen resolution (which is the only graphics option you get to change) and you STILL can play faster/smoother than it's parent formats, but nontheless...

    Or is it me?
This hot girl came over to myspace last night, she twittered my yahoo till I
googled all over her facebook. Ask Jeeves...

Really does depend on the studio and the effort put into the port, a prime example being Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs, both feature high res texture packs and a wealth of options including graphics and rebindable keys. I'm looking forward to playing sleeping dogs on Friday but the reviews look promising for this PC port as they have delivered on what they said.

Ideally a port should run well and have decent pc controls, unfortunately most devs are too cheap to do this properly. Decent performance but plays better with a controller is acceptable; at least it gives me a chance to experience good games. Poor performance and buggy ports are inexcusable however, and unfortunately all too common.

Basically any port will experience some consolitis, depending on how much effort was put into it. I'd say ports are a good thing, providing the consolitis doesn't run too deep.

Depends on the game. The PC port of Mass Effect was brilliant.

Mouse acceleration was fine. I've played it through at least five times, on various different PCs, and the mouse was normal every time.

But do you normally use mouse acceleration?

The mouse acceleration does work fine. That's the problem

I would forgive it if you could turn it off.

I dont like Ported games, they really feel weird. I prefer it developed specifically for PC. Reminds me of GTA IV. LOL but if i don't have a choice, then i play it anyway

Re: Console games on the PC - good or bad?

It all depends on what they do when porting it. Darksiders 2, Dark Souls etc are literally just port overs from console, nothing fancy done to them, literally just get it working on PC.

Respect to From Software for their Dark Souls port, they said from day one that it was going to be a port and that they did not particularly know how to do PC stuff. They were honest about it and it works fine on the PC, granted there has been a 3rd party resolution fix for it now which makes it look sharper, it still looks decent though if you decide against using it.

Best port in a while though has got to be Sleeping Dogs, they thought about the PC audience and released a high res texture pack and extra settings for PC users. Absolutely fantastic on every level, full gamepad and mouse / keyboard support which changes context menus depending on what you are using, also supports on the fly change from input devices. You just cannot fault the devs at all from the work they have put in.
