    Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online

    Anyone playing this open beta?

Heard about this a while ago, signed up and received my invite whilst on holiday last week. Only got round to playing it last night, and I must say, it's pretty good. It's no BF3, I'll admit that, but it is quite fun for a change and quite different. I just hope the masses can steer clear of the usual "run & gun" that people in online FPS games normally do and stick with team combat, using class abilities to help the team rather then themselves, and go for objectives. The fact there is no TDM type mode (as of yet) is a plus to me, so hopefully it will only appeal to tactical players.

I normally stay well away from F2P game models, but from the looks of it so far, it doesn't seem too bad, although I am quite low level so I don't know what it will be like at higher levels. There are 2 currencies in the game, one you earn through playing and one you buy with RL money. All the items you can buy appear to be able to be purchased with either currency, so you won't necessarily be left out or completely undergeared compared to someone paying with RL money, you just won't get it as fast. But saying that, I have made more than enough by playing to buy what I need so far, but as I say, that could change at higher level of gameplay. So all in all, it does look like a real F2P game, rather than a P2W (pay to win) game.

Graphics aren't too fancy, animation is a bit awkward at times being 3rd person, and there's no collision so you can run through other players, but the gameplay is reasonably fast paced and full of action. Well worth a try IMO. I can't compare to any other Ghost Recon games as I have never played them, would be interested to know if they are similar.

Would like to try joining some games in a Fireteam, so if anyone else here plays it, give me a shout!

So no-one else playing this then?

I'm surprised it's not more popular then it is, it's better than most other free shooters out there. It's not actually a FPS though, players are classing it as an "arcade tactical TPS". Running and gunning will not get you or your team very far, so steer clear CoD players!

Re: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online

Still no-one else on here playing it? Had a bit of a laugh last night, game seems a lot more balanced now. Still some minor issues they need to deal with and a patch coming soon with a new map, weapon/armour skins etc.

Have joined a clan outside of the game, but in all honesty, I hardly ever seen them online, plus clans haven't been introduced properly into the game yet, so looking for others to play with (ooh err misses).

had I the bandwidth in my private life.. I'd be all over this like a rash.

Ghost Recon rocked my boat.. was hard as nails but I loved it.

Do you control other NPC's in it? can you control a fire team on a map and point them to cover streets etc? or is it just 1st person?

Re: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online

Zak, it's a "multiplayer free-to-play class based third person shooter". Bit like BF3, but much less run and gun and more about the tactics. At the moment, you have only 2 game types and 4 maps plus a new one coming soon (it's still in open beta), but it's still pretty fun.
