Exactly - gotta see it personally to really appreciate it, but I can't imagine there being much chance of that.

Incidently, anyone thought of another use for the Cobra?

Imagine this.. two pairs of planes going head to head, one being the Flankers, tucked in formation nice and close. Imagine one Flanker suddenly pulling a Cobra, reducing it's airspeed to near nothing. If it then dived for the weeds, the potential is there for a Doppler radar on the planes opposing missing the fact that there were two Flankers there... Leaving the other to sneak up behind using IR "radar" and launch IR missiles. They'd never know he was there...

In reality, makes no difference to an AMRAAM...

I've seen the high altitude part of that video many times before, there it makes serious use of the SU-37's thrust vectoring engines. The SU-35/37 is the only aircraft that can perform the 'kobra loop' however, without a departure.

    Nice find, cheers for sharing
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Nps, gonna chuck it off my webspace now as I need to use more than I have got free, lol. If anyone wants it PM me and I'll bang it back up for a bit.

Edit: No need to take it down, just managed to squeeze it all in!

    Thanks for leaving that m8.

    It is one cracking vid.

I think I want to build a proper scale replica of that for Radio control with twin gas turbines and vector nozzles and all working surfaces . Probably need a computer to fly it though

Talking of the Russians and engineering. They really do do the good old engineering stuff well. I was reading some stuff about combat helicopters the other day and it is amazing how many fairly modern and extremely capable helicopter designs they have . What with the Mil 24/25 and then the Mil 26 which is almost certainly the most capable heavy lift heli in the world. Then for attack helis they have the Mil 28 and the Kamov 50/52 both of which are more modern and more capable than the Apache. Both the Mil 28 and Ka 50/52 are highly resilient to up to 28mm canon fire and can run for half an hour with no oil in the gearbox .

Although their electronics and hightech construction is not as advanced as the US I should imagine that in a real world situation their engineering prowess would be more important. In real war supply lines and production bases cannot be garaunteed and in such a situation you want your hardware to stand up on its own.
