Recommend me a RPG for Steam?

Hi, was hoping some one here could help me out with a new game option.

My sister recently tried out the new patch on her WoW game (yes, the 5.0.4 patch) and has been considering moving onto a new game since. She asked if there was anything on steam that she and I (and a few friends) could play together as well as a game she could play alone when we aren't available. We already have L4D2, which is fantastic when we have 4 people but not so great alone.

I was looking at Torchlight II, as she loved Diablo II and I heard it's quite similar. I'm aware it's not out yet, but I believe you get the original game if you preorder, which would keep us preoccupied.

If there's a better option for an action RPG, I'm open to suggestions. I'm more interested in games under £15 however, as although I can afford more, my sister can't. Its the reason I have shied away from GW2, despite its praises.

Also, if anyone has any experience with the TL series I would be really interested to know if its any good!

Have you tried Borderlands and the Fallout series?? There is also Titan Quest which is more in the style of Diablo II.

Also have you considered diablo 3? "I don't have the game so not sure if good or bad and pretty sure it isnt on steam"

Torchlight is from the people behind Diablo II IIRC.

We do have Diablo III, I wasn't very impressed by the 'always on' internet connection so was hoping for an alternative (I'd be fine, sister uses a wireless that seems to blip occasionally). I'll take a look at borderlands, I'm pretty sure she played fallout 3 and didn't like it though.

Titan Quest? I'll go look that up, haven't heard of it sad to say!

Is Torchlight still OK though? Want to see my options fully before I go show the sister!

Titan Quest is a good diablo like ARPG, lots of replayability in that because you can combine any of the (8?) masteries. If you preorder Torchlight 2 you will get Torchlight 1 included if the deal is still running, Torchlight 1 is single player only.

Thanks, been looking it up and will show sister both these games I think. I'm a bit wary of the lack of multiplayer, but I may just wait and see if they mention a reasonable release date for TL2 tomorrow (I believe they're announcing it at PAX)

There is also Silverfall which is like Diablo and Titan Quest. There is a review on HEXUS for it :

Played through it a good few times now and really enjoy it, you can get Silverfall Complete for £11.99 on Steam and it is the main game and Earth Awakening expansion (which is actually standalone) but you can use your character from the main story on it. Only downside is that they are single player only, still worth a punt if you like action rpg's. Art style alone makes this stand out and I feel the game didn't get the recognition it deserved when released.

Torchlight is great, TL1 will keep you both busy and happy until TL2 comes out. I managed to jump on the end of the TL2 mutliplayer beta and jumped on a game with another Hexite - multiplayer was good fun and very much in the feel of Diablo 2 multiplayer.

If you want something else MMO to keep you occupied between now TL2 coming out, however, have a look at Drakensang Online. My better half just got me into it, and it's got a very Diablo 2 feel to it. Bit of a grind to get through the levels at times, but good fun and surprisingly well made for what is essentially a browser MMO.

@Ferral: I would love another RPG, but I ideally wanted a game to play co-op/multiplayer with my sister, possibly with others too. Other than that the game looks solid, may keep an eye out for it if I get the chance to dump money on another single player game.

@scaryjim: I was hoping a TL player would come forth! I'm happy to hear it's got a Diablo 2 feel, as sister and I both loved that game and was hoping for more of the same. I'll have a look at Drakensang, see if it's something I'd be interested in.
