    Pe-2

This is all in Russian I'm afraid, but there are some cool schematics here of the PE-2 that need little explanation. It's interesting to see how the ventral gunner operates.

Apparantly the PE-2 might be appearing on a patch soon!

That's what I thought at first, though I'm wondering whether he doubles as a radio operator/navigator or something in the seated position - he has a porthole to look oput of, which indicates that he needs to get a good view of the ground (maybe for nav)? If you look closely you can see a dotted outline of him in a lying down gunning position. Even so, it's difficult to imagine how his must aim or see a thing through that tiny hole in the floor without some sort of periscope aiming aid.

There are small windows each side of his head though. Still looks like a tricky job

In one of the cross sections it looks like the dorsal gunner behind the pilot has a trapdoor under him like some kind of ejection seat

    Lovely drawings though. Very detailed
You can see things like the landing gear systems and the oil cooler/radiator vents and inlets in detail

That'll be the crew access hatch then - there's one under the rear compartment too

Oh Ok . You'd want to make sure the latch was tight before you took off

it must have been awfully lonely in the back with 1000 lbs of bombs and a fuel tank between you and the rest of the crew!

Yeah I suppose it would have been

Was all the bomb load stored inboard between the wing spars? Looks like it on the drawings.

Pretty clean airframe actually with retracting tailwheel and everything

The second JPEG shows a seperate dorsal gunners postion which looks like it would be immediately over the fuel tank? That wouldnt have given the gunner much room at all

No. There were some hardpoints below the wings, so that a couple more could be carried. I think you can see it in the third set of drawings.
