I'm not sure about steam but I bought a Guild Wars 2 key from Simply Games a lot cheaper than the general price at the time. Got it emailed within a couple of minutes. I imagine they do steam keys as well
+1 For Simply Games. For me rightly or wrongly gives me confidence that they are a boxed games retailer in the UK too. Gives me a bit more confidence than the key stores that are 1 man operations based far afield. I have used Gameagency and G2play too.
Thats for pure key stores, but for some reason I draw a distinction between them and what I consider proper digital distribution stores like Getgames, GreenManGaming, Gamersgate. Although often of course in the case of a steamworks games those sites are only selling you a key anyway - in my head theres a distinction!
All mentioned sites I have used and had no problem with
I usually check out
http://www.cheapshark.com/
and http://www.dlcompare.com/catalogue as a quick price check.
Although cheapshark is US prices, places that have sales are usually correct, even if the actual price is not exactly correct
I just bought Spec Ops, Darkness II, Borderlands II and XCOM for £19 total from Gamefly (after quidco and voucher). All on Steam.
Be careful buying steam keys "cheap" from non legit sources. I've heard that it's quite common for people to buy huge quantities of keys, using stolen credit/debit details, then to sell the keys on cheap, yet still at profit. I'm sure that there are no end of people wanting to sell keys/copies for totally legitimate reasons, but I for one steer well clear of dodgy sites and try to ensure that money goes to the developer/host.
Where did you hear that? I've heard all sorts of things in my time but they're not all true.... I don't doubt that could happen. But I wouldn't just not buy from cheap key stores just in case that's the case. A lot of them are cheap due to the country they buy the keys in. That's why you see a fair few games that need a Russian VPN to activate. I steer clear of keys that require that, but not necessarily the sites that have games like that. Not having a dig, just saying![]()
I can also vouch for Greenmangaming, a lot of great deals on there. Simplygames is also a site that have pretty good prices on CD keys.
