    Identify RPG Games

Afternoon All, I hope there is a PC RPG aficionado that can help me ID a game I played a few years ago. It would have been released 2003 to 2009 (I think) and was set in a medieval/fantasy world. I'm sure the lead character (human male) had the ability to use some demon transform ability and the game started in a pit or cave. Later in the game I think there was a section that had you jumping from wooden house/shack that were attached to a cliff.

If you have any idea what game I'm on about I'd love to know, thanks in advance!

    Re: Identify RPG Games

Describes quite a few. Lands of lore 2 would be one of the good ones that fits.

More details please- first person perspective for eg?

    Re: Identify RPG Games

Lands of Lore 2 is too old, game is 1st person (I think). I'm sure I remember mentally comparing to Oblivion when I first played it.

    Re: Identify RPG Games

Oblivion was only 2006, so presumably later than that. Tricky, not that many first person RPGs around then, mostly 3rd person.

    Open world/exploration, or more linear?

    Re: Identify RPG Games

Think it was much more linear than Oblivion - might have been year earlier than Oblivion, it was around the time. To be honest it may have been 3rd person, I just have a feeling the view presented was similar.

    Re: Identify RPG Games

Divine Divinity & Beyond Divinity both started in a cave / pit. Beyond Divinity you actually had a demon tethered to you as a companion when you sterted.

Similar perspective to the Diablo games and they were early 2000

Other games from round that era :

    Silver
    Revenant
    Baldurs Gate 1&2
    Icewind Dale 1&2
    Planescape Torment
    Arcanum
    Arx Fatalis
Dark Messiah Might & Magic (much newer than those listed so far)
    Nox
    Krondor Trilogy
    Lionheart
    Realms of Arcania
    Lands of Lore
    Darkstone
    Soulbringer
    Robinsons Requiem

Thats the ones I can think of, there were so many RPG's released round then!

Thanks for the list - I'll have a look through them and see if any match my hazy memory...

    Re: Identify RPG Games

It sounds to me like Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (from what little I have to go on). You start there in a cave/dungeon. You later have a woman bound to you who (SPOILERS) turns out to be a demon, as do you in part and you later get the ability to transform into a demon. There is one section when you are climbing along rooftops on the side of cliff...

Do you remember killing any cyclops'? Or big dragons? The two moments that stand out most for me in the game are when you kill a dragon by slamming a portculus down on it and the killing move on a cyclops, where it drops to one knee and you run it's eye through with your sword (accompanied by a huge spurt of blood if you didn't have the settings turned off!) It was 2006 release, so right in the middle of your time frame

    Re: Identify RPG Games

We have a winner - it's Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, I actually looked at this earlier today but dismissed it until you mentioned the dragon and it all came flooding back... thanks to all posters, that's one more niggle out of my mind!

No problem andyjt. I'm glad that the hours (/days/weeks) that I've spent ignoring my work by playing videogames have finally come in use!
