My onward battle for Supremacy in the Skies

Well.....I have been practicing before work for a few days, to get my "eye" back in.

Have gone back to default joystick settings and started blaming myself again

Have this morning managed to see the truth again.

Yak9 or Lagg3 has pittifull machie guns and such slow rate of canon fire that I'm just not good enough t get the kill everytime.

I watched external for my shots and I am hitting a lot...just not damaging. Yeah..it might happen....but then it probably won't.

So I wheeled the Russian beauty's away, and then grabbed a bit of English firepower.

    First up....Hurric Mk2 B with all those 12 mg's.

Well with convergance at 200 or 300 I do the same amount of damage.....quite a lot. But I was out of ammo after 3 planes again.....just cant get the 4th .

    (note..this is 4 BF109's...old ones...set to Novice...3000 starting alt...no advantage to either...)

Never got hit once tho the Hurri doing the business where I had forgotten she could although I did stall her a few times when I would'nt have stalled the Yak.

However...once the Mk2 C was rolled out, fired up and airborn, the game changed

Holy sh1t I had forgotten what all those Canons were all about.

No war power, just full power, and rads to 4....and she's ok forever......and as I climbed and turned and lined up on the poor sods, the others wheeled in and had a quick go, but missed and then the truth I had been looking for turned up.

Straight up under one.....let him have the good news, and as it detonated in front of me I was over on the canopy looking for the others....3 gone in under 5 minutes and still ammo....

we're on it now, I think.....except the sod is now running away.....and Hurris aint fast

so (I have Icons ON) at 700 metres I pulled the ultimate Trig....nose up, spray and pray....

    boom.

    Thankyou.,..and good night

SO I now have to try to sort my canon fire in the Russian birds....the Yak9 T's and K's cos you just dont get this kinda power in VEF do you?

OK, the odd lucky PK, but to hose a 109 in 7mm ammo is pissing in the wind sometimes unless you have a very steady stick...and I don't.

But I am happy to say I smiled for the first time in Il-2 in a week

in the 12 gun hurri.. set the convergance to 150.. and get reet up close to the enemy - pretty easy with the AI... and let em have it as close as you can get.. You WILL see results

Do as Tumble says - get SO CLOSE that YOU CAN'T MISS - throttle back so you have similar E to your target and then when you feel you're in range (The Wingtips of the plane are touching both sides of the gunsight) THEN LET RIP - have your convergance at 200 for mg's and 150 for cannons and then see the firepower MG's are useless from anything further than 250m IMO, even if you're firing from convergance range...

Quite so; Dogsbody himself refused to fly cannon-armed Spits and looked askance at anyone who did, claiming that they encouraged pilots to open fire at too great a range.

He soon changed his tune the first time he flew one tho... the way they rip thin aluminium aeroplanes to bits is magnificent

Cannons are the way forward! Just been doing some flying and you can fill a 109 full of lead at close range and still watch them limp home! On the other hand hit them with cannons and watch them burst into flames and spiral into the ground. Nice.
    Not around too often!

Yes you can, 1 single P39 cannon ripping the wing off a 109 from over 0.8 away

He shot Dak down, by the time I got round behind him he was pulling away, lined up, shot, adjusted, shot again.

    This! Is my boom stick!
