I'm thinking of buying a PS1/2 controller cable to USB for games like Tomb Raider, does anyone know if they work well with Windows 7 and does the game detect the controller?

A wired 360 would have far better support quite a few steam games will auto detect it and it works perfect. The controller isn't that expensive either.
Hate that controller.
I'm going to get the Logitech F710 later, but wanted something to hold me over till then.
I had an awful experience with a PS2 controller on the PC using one of those, IIRC - the drivers were just woeful and nothing worked properly. Was a long time ago though, I guess it could've improved. I much preferred a cheap PC control pad that cost about the same as the adapter, but I gave up using it after about a fortnight when I realised I'd rather use a keyboard.
I have a Logic3 converter. Just plugs straight in with no drivers. Works flawlessly.
Its similar to this. Can't vouch how well this works but it's got favourable reviews. Bit pricey on delivery though.

I had one of those Blue usb to dual ps2 connectors. At the time I was using it with PS2 emulators so it was quite easy to map the buttons in the emulator after some playing with drivers. Nowadays you can try installing motioninjoy (I know people hate it). It works with PS3 controllers so I assume it'll work with PS2 too. ATEOTD the cable is only £4 or something so alot less than a xbox controller and they just aren't as comfy for some people... and the principle of buying a controller for a console I don't own just to use it with a PC seems a little outrageous.
I have one of those Blue ones too, where you can plug 2 Pads into it. Rarely use it though as i ended up with the Wireless Dongle to connect my Xbox Pad to it.
