rebooted pc and steam has started to work again this has never happened to me before.
I find when Steam pushes out a major update or you are several updates behind, if you don't have it autorun enabled, it has a few wobbly moments until it has upgraded to the latest version.
Over the weekend I loaded it for the first time in ages and there were several game and steam updates awaiting it took a few restarts before it became usable, I only needed it for voice chat
maybe its that but in the passed i have had to reinstall it to resolve problems. I wish steam had a repair steam option
There is, sort of... Here's how; manually delete everything in your Steam directory, e.g. "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam" except for "steam.exe" and the "steamapps" folder, then launch "steam.exe" which should 'update' a fresh install of Steam on to your computer while keeping your games and saves intact.
I've done it a few times, it has fixed every Steam problem I've had to date.
I have reset my password 3 times and it still wont accept it.
When I try to use my username or email for support it says it doesnt exist despite the fact it already emailed my verification code.
What the BEEEEP is going on ??
Any one ??

Can you still login to steam online through the web? Also have you tried a system restore if its a recent thing?
this ^
your problems has happened to me twice.
if you login using your browser (chrome etc) then do something minor like update your profile. then try again with the steam client it will work again.
steam has some very annoying bugs like this.
not as bad as offline mode. That login process still manages to muck up years after they said they fixed it.
