Arma 2 Wasteland Mod Problem

Hey, I have been playing the DayZ mod for Arma 2 for several weeks now without any problems and [EDIT] can still play without any problems wrong I can't same thing happens
However, I decided to give the Wasteland mod a go as it looked pretty cool and its basiclly just DayZ without the zombies. Anyway I have been suffering major game/system freezes

The game seems to freeze whenever I fire a weapon, I can drive vehicles about, interact with people, everything. But as soon as I go to fire a weapon at someone my game freezes and locks up the computer. The only way I can then get out of the game is to press the power button on the case and hope I can get to the cancel button on the force restart overlay before it shuts down

Has anyone heard of this before or know what I could do to fix it?

have you tried loading the game editor up and driving about, firing your weapon with just Arma 2 loaded up no mods at all? at least that way you'll be able to narrow the problem down a bit.

does your system hang i.e. blue screen or does the game stop responding to such an extent that you cannot get into task manager?

oh and one more thing, is this a legit copy or pirated? apparently the dodgy copies degrade over a period of time, whatever that entails

Your system specs look more than good enough for this game.

Are you loading any sound mods?

I'm having the same problem.
As soon as I fire a weapon the game stops responding then shuts itself down.
As I was playing I asked fellow players if they knew why it did so and someone suggested I turn all the effects volumes down. I did just so and it worked for the night but the next day the game shut down on me again. Now i'm at a loss as to what I need to do to play wasteland.
