    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

How is the controls and movement? similar to Arma 2 or more Battlefieldish ie more fluid and responsive?

Has anyone maxed out the game at 1080p with a decent quad core CPU and say a 580gtx?

What are the framerates like? anyone finally getting 60fps and above on max settings? at what res?

Gun sounds: have they improved dramatically? sound more realisitic and loud?

Are all buildings enterable and fully destructible like in BF3?

Does the game uses the steam game server browser to select and join a server online?

Can u join a fellow friends server that they are in i.e in steams friends list, if u see them playing arma 3 in server A, u can click your friends name and click "join game" and it will automatically load your game and join in same server as your friend?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

    Hey Josh,

I think the only people that are able to max out are SLI 680's or Titan GPU's.

My frames rate is in the 40's @ very high.

I've not tried all the buildings, but one i was in yesterday got blown to bits!!!!

Uses it's own built in Multiplayer browser like before.

Not tried your last question, i'll give it a go over the week, but i have a feeling this isn't possible yet.

I actually didn't mind the grenade animation in ARMA II.

But thanks for the video upload this is extremely tempting! Looks great!

    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

    @ Josh,

The controls and movement are vastly superior to Arma2, that was my main annoyance with Arma2 but this alpha is excellent and I would be inclined to say this is actually better than BF3. You need to look at them as totally different games really, BF3 is great but its less realism more arcade, Arma is all about realism and it certainly has hit the nail on the head in this department!.

With 2x gtx460s and a 2500k at 4ghz I was getting anywhere from 16 to 45 FPS @ 1080p on ultra. I have just grabbed a 7950 which should be arriving tomorrow but I would say performance is pretty solid, to max out the game you would need a gtx670 or 7950 higher (this is my prediction, I shall find out tomorrow!) but for atleast medium your system should handle it, probably high since the 480 has more vram , the cpu might hold you back though, have you played Arma2 before? Because I found performance on my gtx460 about the same on a2 as a3 alpha, however the graphic improvements are insane so it is pretty efficient atm and should get even better before launch.

Oh a gtx580 should also be on high I would expect.

Gun sounds are excellent, I would again say they are better than BF3 (which I love!) they have so much punch in their sounds that it really is perfect. Not sure on destructible environments but they have made a big effort on physics this time round so I would expect a fair amount of features to be in the full release such as destructible environments however the sheer scale may mean we get much less than in bf3.

Not sure about steam but it does use their ingame browser which works .

OK, so after reading all this, watching more vids etc, and my previous want for ARMA II, I decided to purchase it... and Natwest is down! A sign maybe?

    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

OK, so who wants to help me figure out how to play this game then?

I bought it in the end, loaded it up yesterday and thought I'd try my hand at the single player, get used to the commands etc. Err, where are they then? What do I do? How do I aim down the scope? Where's the enemy you are firing at? What's that funny icon in the centre of my screen? Oh, I'm dead.

OK, I get this is no arcade game, and that it will take a while to get it, but I couldn't see anywhere for a tutorial, a quick guide on what keys to use to do what etc, I had to think of what I wanted to do then try and scroll through the keybindings to find it. Does anyone know a good way to learn the game first before jumping into the deep end?

Also, I didn't try MP, how would one go about joining you guys (if you don't mind a complete newbie running around with you)?

Rule number one on MP. Go on teamspeak. Listen to experience players and follow there lead. Treat the game as a proper army scnario and not cod so expect long walks to your objective and probably about 5mins of action per 30min gaming session before u die lol

    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

Sorry guys having technical difficulties with my card so waiting for the replacement now. Josh the 580 will certainly help however arma is really cpu intensive so you will need to dial back the settings I reckon, viewing distance will have to be much lower but you should still be able to play fairly reasonable speeds, if you get OK fps in arma 2 you shouldnt have a problem as arma 3 is alot more efficient .

Spacebar and scroll wheel are your friends in arma, use that to interact with most things, I is the inventory now.

    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

This game looks promising, perhaps a filler before BF4, maybe even more.

    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

It certainly is a good game, Arma 2 lacked alot of polish but it was still a decent sim... Arma 3 takes this to a whole new level and to me seems more polished than bf3,definitely not just a filler for BF4 as I do prefer the realism ARMA offers, hopefully Day-z gets ported to this version as its so far ahead!.

    Re: Arma 3 Alpha

Would a HD 7850 be able to run it OK? I can pretty much max out ARMA 2 as long as the distance is set to about 5000.

Don't want to buy it and realise I can't turn up the graphics, it's a nice looking game!
