    Dirt 3 : worth getting?

So I've just seen that dirt 3 is on sale on steam til 4pm tomorrow. Worth getting? I was gonna get NFS shift 2, but I reckon they're not really similar so I could possible play both...

But is Dirt 3 worth getting? Even over shift 2?

Out of interest, have you played the predecessors, or GRID for that matter?

a Colin Mcrae rally game and nfs carbon. also forza 3 on a xbox. That's about it.

Re: Dirt 3 : worth getting?

Ah, fair enough. I've played GRID and Dirt 2, but not Dirt 3. It's a very odd genre, different to any other racing game I've played.

It's a decent racer, although obviously it's heavy on the rallying side of things compared to normal track-racing. Thing is, it's pretty arcade-esque, the drivers are licensed and tend to shout mate-y things at you during the races, for no real purpose. The big gripe I have is that there are a whole bucket of difficulty modes, and I tended to find the easy ones hilariously easy, and the difficult ones impossible, and never really found a happy medium where it was a decent challenge, but not beyond my limits.

    I liked Dirt 2, but I wouldn't pay £5 for Dirt 3.

Re: Dirt 3 : worth getting?

I got it on sale.. and regret it. The interface is terrible - you have to jump through layer after layer of unfolding pyramids to get at events, wait for loading.. and then the actual gameplay only lasts a few minutes and you're back in the menus again. Even Dirt 2 was better.

The gameplay itself is very arcadey - the rally bits are massively superior to the other types of driving, but you have to do the other stuff as well to unlock more rally events.

Would Dirt 2 or Shift 2 be a better buy then?

I don't really mind a mixture of events, they didn't seem that bad to me...

Shift 2 is ace, especially if you like grand turismo/forza style games.

Re: Dirt 3 : worth getting?

    Yep.

So would it be a good idea to get Shift 2 and one of the Dirts? Dirt 3 is £5 on Steam right now, Dirt 2 DVD is £5.50 on ebay. There's a Dirt 3 DVD on ebay too, but it's on auction.

edit: just saw that grid 2 is coming soon, so I don't know if it's better to get a Dirt game and then GRID 2?

No, just get Shift 2 and wait for the reviews of Grid 2.

You can download a demo of Dirt 2 on Steam apparently, maybe try that?

Re: Dirt 3 : worth getting?

Played the demo for about 5 minutes cos it's too hard on a keyboard. Have to say, the graphics look superb, and I love the menu! Considering buying it off ebay, or waiting for the summer sale

Having watched a video for Grid, I'm almost definitely gonna get GRID 2.

Edit : not sure if WRC3 is worth getting? It's not on steam, but I might be able to get a dvd - although it'll be £15-25...

Ok. Im now thinking Dirt 2 or WRC3 now. And then GRID when it comes.

Although I heard Shift 2 is more like Gran Turismo (which I want), and GRID is more arcade-y?

Ahah, I understand where you're coming from. But then, none of those games will include good rallying, will they?

There aren't really any good rallying games on the PC these days sadly

GRID is like Dirt on tarmac.

I always thought they should've called Dirt GRIT.
