price didn't matter, quiet and good was the main buying point. my bedrooms next to my office, late night gaming sessions with a loud clicky keyboard would be a big fat no, the big bonus at the time was PC World stocking it along with the razer ones, saves ordering online and having to send back.

I can also vote for the G710+, to be honest I would have stayed with my (non mech) Sidewinder X4, but no Windows 8 compatability, the G710+ proudly states so on the box. I've used a G15 and a G11 in the past, so knew what the expect. Needed to use it with MMOs and some action games. I downloaded the software first and had a look, liked the features and then bought the 'board - first mech keyboard for me - love it.

The only downside for me is the white lighting as its a pretty plain colour, if it was red or blue id be more sold on it, but its still in the frame for now, still looking for peeps views own alternatives though.

i used to use blue on my g15 and g19, both were hard to see, this on the other hand is bright enough on the lowest setting. I would not have got it if i didn't have the razer mamba that can be any colour.

lol I thought the whole idea of backlighting on keyboards was so you can see the keys, no? Red or blue are 'pretty', but I only want to see the keys in low light - white will always be more visible than red or blue - you who gives a stuff if it does the job anyway?

I never understood back lighting. Do people seriously look at the keyboard when they are gaming?!

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

I tend to use the backlighting between uses more than anything else. If it's dark in the room, I need a bit of guidance sometimes on where keys are.

Sure, for WASD games and general typing I don't need to look at the keyboard, I know where I need to put my hands, but if there's a specific key I need it's useful to be able to see where it is.

As I explained in the starting post I want backlighting because the computer is in a darkened area of the room and unless your a stellar touch typist then you do need some guidance, ergo backlighting..

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

At the end of the day, its what you want. Das are arguably the most robust mechanical keyboards but are rare to find in the uk unless you look at ebay. I went from a black switch to blue and it feels so much better to type on compared to blacks. The click is a bonus but you could always go for brown switches for quieter typing. So imo: stay away from red and blacks any look for blues or brown switches. Its alot easier to decide when you can have a hands on approach so I would try and go to your local computer store and see if you can try them out

You could also look at the Gigabyte Osmium or QPAD MK-85.

I might be living in a dream world but I want a mechanical gaming keyboard with back lighting and wireless...

But until they develop better battery technology I guess I should go back to sleep...
