Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

Hey all Ive decided to finally make the switch from membrane to mech, and am shocked that im stuck for choice, there are way more mech keyboards and companys than I remember...

Will be using said device for mainly gaming on stuff like SC2, Mass Effect 1 and 2 reruns, and maybe some FPS, may also have to type 20% of the time due to my job, Computer is in living room so that could be a factor.

Budget is around the £100 mark maximum but would be after best value VS Quality.

No lighting in corner of living room where PC is so would prefer backlighting.

Read through a lot of threads and info so far and most seem to be old and don't all include the latest and greatest gear.. and no really new vs old comparison.

I know all the different cherry keys and what they do but seriously to gamers what is the differenece, I like the sound and the feel of a cherry mx blue key but hear peeps raving about how its not a gaming key and you should always use black and red and sometimes brown.

Seriously its a bloody minefield and I haven't even started on deciding on what replacement mouse to buy.

Please in the words of a good film

Help me obi wan your my only hope!

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

Many people use blues for SC2 but browns are probably a better all rounder, the tactile feedback you get on these is great for knowing that you have actually pressed the key. These can be noisy and distracting to people nearby, especially blues, although it differs slightly from model to model.

Reds and blacks are good for when you have to repeatedly press the same key.

I'm pretty keen on the new Corsair K70 that is due in April, you can only get reds with this, but at least that saves you fretting over which switches to choose!

Wow in all my looking had not seen either the K70 or K95, K95 visually looks a step down but the K60 does look stunning.

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

The K90 got great reviews with many of the reviewers keeping it as their primary keyboard.

The K95 is an improved version, with the K70 being identical but losing the unnecessary macro keys.

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

Seems the K60 gets a lot of love, and I went to pc world today at teeside park Stockton but they only had the razer black widow ultimate, which although felt nice looked a bit plain and I don't think green is my colour, quite heavy though. Madcatz v7 which to be honest looked a little cheap considering its cost, STEELSERIES 6GV2 which I wasent to impressed with feel wise considering its rave reviews and the corsair vengeance v90 which of the lot seemed to look the best but the rubber domed macro keys and F keys kind of let it down and the thought of how much crap will build up in there unique body design.

I also visited Falcon computers in sunderland and they had a CM storm trigger which was my fave visually so far, great backlighting and design, felt comfortable but had cherry blacks which I dunno seemed a little off after using the keys on the widow ultimate.

Id like to get a feel of the GT710+ as I think it could be an option as well as the Cm storm with maybe brown or blue cherrys, of which blue are not in this country yet.

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

Yeah I noticed that when I read up on the new corsairs last night which is a plus but I think the K95 looks a step down design wise over the K90, and I wouldent like to even consider the PC needed to drive that Costco TV at full rez, might get about 1/2 a frame per second if your lucky with a state of the art PC.

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

Still No further forward as yet was hoping there were a few people here who have personal experiances with there keyboards as they are way more believable than a reviewer who receives review units.

Also surprised that I haven't seen any razer fans.

I tried a lot but settled on the logitech one, for a mechanical it's so quiet.

So that's a big vote for Logitech.. if you tried a few, was price an issue for you or was it what you preffered the most regardless.

Re: Lookout for new Mechanical gaming board

I don't get why the G710+ is so expensive compared to other keyboards. I don't mind the look of it, but I'm sure the macro keys would annoy me and it doesn't have a customisable back-light.

I just can't see the advantage over cheaper keyboards.

If you really want to add dampeners you can easily and cheaply do so with any cherry based keyboard, or you could just train yourself not not to bottom out the keys, especially if you have one of the tactile switches. Reds are pretty quiet anyway.
