Learn to fly! I have had it for a couple of months and i a still a novice. Read through the threads in here for a good guide. And patch it up from the website!
Not around too often!
Cool, Does it require cd to play? should be here tommorow morning if im lucky! (by i have it i meant on order - ebay)
I tend to play my games without cds and my cdrom has eat 3 cds now and costs loads to keep buying them (Pls trust me when i say this im not simply saying it because i dont own the cds...)
Ill go get the patch now then! ANy special posts i should read?
I look at the tactics one and it was all a bit crazy really, i think i will learn better by playing it and testing stuff!
Does this game have black/red outs?
iNsChris

well i installed aces, so do i just need aces patch ? or do i need to patch FB with 1.22 then install aces then patch ?>
Install IL2FB then Aces straight over the top. This saves using any of the 1.20 versions.
Patch then 2.01 then to 2.04

Ok guys, I am downloading 2.01 and 2.04 going to take 30mins.
Shall i do all the lessons? I generally know how to fly (I fly in real life) so landings/takeoff should be fine!
Do i need to do the lessons like guns n stuff? Or is it all pretty obvious? the demo i played seemed easy to use the guns/bombs. OBviously playing proply it will be difficult interms of skill etc.
So where do i play thenIm usually on vice coms with my gaming clan so prob wont join others but might.

I suggest using quick mission builder to get the feel for different planes, they are all air starts I put up say 4 or 8 HE111s 109s etc and then jump in Spit, P40 whatever takes my fancy really . The training missions are good but some of the planes are carp to learn the take off landing stuff in as they swing all over the place.
Good Luck S!
the training is no good...you have to watch
Watch my film....on how to set up a server for the simple purpose of getting airborn...
you ...on your own...learning to take off and fly about....

To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
lol i flew today... Oh boy was that hard!
I got like the odd hit on a guy from fair distance and got away from many chases but didnt get any kills at all.
Fantastic game, With good guys ! They dont take you out as you take off and actually let you climb it seems.
I still need to learn how to read the maps, how to zoom out of the map, how to know where im going when i can't see any friendlys around to follow!

I use the rivers and roads for my main reference points.
If you're belting home out of ammo and damamged, keep low and you'll be harder to spot. Don't fly directly over a river though as you'll create a wake if you're really low, which is visible for miles!
To zoom the map, left click on it, then it'll cycle through all the detail levels available.
Left click and hold to scroll the map.
Hold down both mouse buttons to re-position the map window.
Load up a quick mission and try shooting down one big plane. When you've finished, as you quit the mission you get the option to save the track of the mission. Save it, then switch the view to manual control and watch the track from your enemy's viewpoint. Now you can see where your shots are going.
In the aircraft load-out screen you can adjust the convergence of your guns and cannons, fiddle with these until you find something that works for you. Convergence is the point in front of you where your bullets will be most concentrated, so that's where they'll cause the most damage.
The eight gun Hurricane used to have each set of four guns arranged to create a fire pattern in a diamond shape. All that had to done then was to set the guns so that the two diamond patterns from each wing overlapped at a set distance from the plane. You can imagine the damage eight machine guns covering a 6' diamond pattern would make!
Don't set it too far away though, your bullets have less effect the further they have to travel... I use something between 200-300 for guns and 150-250 for cannons, depending on what plane I'm flying. I find that when I'm in a quicker plane I go for shorter convergences as I'm able to get closer more often...
