Want to get back into Skyrim. Are there any good complete/combination mods out there?

It's been a while since I've played Skyrim. I miss the game, but not all the hours spent modding it! I want to get back into playing it. But much more casually this time. Before you guys suggest S.T.E.P, I am just looking for a mod that can simply be installed with NMM or whatever, and wont take me hours to setup right! I don't mind selecting different options and preferences for different parts of the mod as it's being installed, but that's it really.

I was hoping for something that will improve textures, lighting and gameplay at least. I am cool with something that changes things and adds new things to the game. I've played the game plenty already so don't need to worry about messing with the original experience

I really can't bare modding it like I did in the past so am really hoping there is something out there for me! I've looked on Nexus mods but there doesn't seem to be a section for this type of mod, strangely enough!

    Cheers all.

Well for starters did you subscribe to the official Skyrim high resolution texture pack?
I use "Static Mesh Improvement Mod", search for it in the workshop

What, with the workshop you mean? I never really liked using mods that way due to management issues. Also there are mods that you can't get on steam. Is there a reason I should be doing things that way? Cheers.

Edit: Just noticed the steam workshop has a "collections" section. Is that why?

One of the best things to do is open the "Skyrim" config file in Documents\My Games\Skyrim and under the [General] heading add "uGridsToLoad=7" and "uExterior Cell Buffer=64" without quotes. Becareful though as if you save the game after changing it you can't open your save file if you change it back.

Edit: Looking at your PC you should try uGridsToLoad=9 and uExterior Cell Buffer=100

For me changing these values is better than any mod as it vastly increases the detail distance

That's something I never messed with before. Though I did know about it. The problem is it messes with scripts. Makes triggered events happen earlier so sometimes you miss them. I may as well mess with it this time though as I've played the game plenty already. Thanks for reminding me

I'll still be wanting a nice complete/combo mod though, should anyone know of a good one...

Well, you mentioned that you were fed up with taking hours to setup mods (I had exactly the same experience with Oblivion). It's so blisteringly simple in Skyrim with the workshop, I was wondering why you hadn't mentioned it.

Personally I just mix and match several of the most popular ones, rather than doing things by collection, but of course you can do things that way.

I would check which ones, but a) I haven't played in ages and my list will be out of date, and b) I didn't install any particularly detailed mods, mostly just little bits.

Yeh I think it will give it a go with the workshop this time. It seems to have improved since I last looked at it. I'm not sure how much though as mod conflicts were tougher to deal with than with NMM in the past. I imagine that the BOSS list, or whatever it's called, is probably pretty good for Skyrim by now. And if the Steam Workshop is using it then I hopefully wont run into to many problems, at least not with the more popular mods. Don't worry about recommending mods. I know tonnes of them Got a massive list I'm subscribed to on the Nexus. I think I had about 20+GB worth of mods installed when I was playing it before lol.... As you can imagine - It was a hell of a task managing that lot! That's why I was hoping some poor bugger had spent the time to make a massive combo mod that is without conflicts

Nice one. Thanks I will keep an eye on that!

I think I've figured the way to do this is to install a gameplay overhaul mod. Then add any graphical mods I like on top. Was hoping for an easy way out of this with one single mod, but I doubt I'm gonna find it just yet! I do like the idea of these steam workshop collections though. I think I'm gonna save a little to buy both the official quest addons first, then spend a day one weekend modding the game. Damn you TES! Can't wait to waste hours and hours messing with mods........

Yeah, probably the best path. I remember using OOO and similar for Oblivion, there must be equivalents for Skyrim by now.

Yeh I used that too (Slightly off topic but Midas magic was probably my favourite Oblivion mod. Force push and that one where you could make rocks fall on people from the sky were so much fun ). I've seen gameplay overhaul mods that look pretty good. But surprisingly I just can't find one that does everything. I don't even think I've seen a complete graphics mod either come to think of it. Just texture packs, lighting, or ENB pretty much. Well, not counting workshop collections of course. For whatever reason, Oblivion seemed to have a lot more choice in the way of overhaul mods after it had been out this amount of time...
